@tomsherwood@JamesFallows The normally quality reporters at the WSJ whiffed on this speech as well. "A strongman style of governing" hardly captures the threat to deploy the military domestically (to say nothing of all the other promises about immigrants):
@JamesFallows Well, of course. Why would you expect details on Trump's plan to end the Ukraine war in one day? Or on the logistics of finding and deporting 20 million people?
@JamesFallows@joshtpm Here's another beauty: apparently, selecting a VP now "exposes fissures" β even though every presidential candidate ever has had to deal with competing interests vying for the slot. But for Harris it's somehow a sign of Democratic weakness.
@JamesFallows The NYTimes dek says "Saturday's repeat win is an uncertain measure of wider enthusiasm for his re-election bid"...but the column says nothing about that at all.
@JamesFallows Just watched it on your advice. The big difference is that Andy Griffith was disqualified after his unedited words got out. But no effect on Trump after Hollywood Access tape, "vermin," "poison," "captured soldiers are losers," etc.
