@ellorysmith My mom died on November 20th after @UHC denied her more physical therapy and skilled nursing. Because of Medicaid Estate Recovery I’m still appealing her denial to an ALJ to try and avoid her estate being on the hook for $13,000 in debt that insurance should have paid.

@ellorysmith @UHC On the paperwork front, I won 10 appeals to a QIO that kept her from being discharged after 21 days (when UHC first started trying to kick her out), but lost the 11th appeal. At the same time I was also battling some of her care team that were trying to write her off.

@ellorysmith @UHC I was with her daily through her entire ordeal from May 27 (her 77th birthday) and was with her when she died. I’ll never forgive UHC and the insurance industry that put profits over the life of my last living parent.

@ellorysmith @UHC She had received about ~50 days but the annual limit is 100 days. After she was moved to Medicaid she slowly declined because she wasn’t getting the PT she needed. She died from a very treatable stage 3C ovarian cancer that was pretty self contained.
