Unai Simon has won the Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award for 2026.
He beat his compatriot, David Raya, to the prize thanks to his efforts with Spain at the World Cup.
But Simon made a total of nine saves in eight games, which — as a body of work — surely does not outshine Raya's season for Arsenal.

Forever a Gunner ❤️
The club can confirm that Gabriel Martinelli has joined Al-Hilal on a permanent deal.
Thank you for everything and best of luck, Gabi 🤝
I think the next crisis for the Premier League is how we stop 16 year olds from scoring goals. It’s basically child labour and should be stopped. I think we need a well meaning campaign of discerning pundits (who are definitely concerned about the good of the game) to stop this.
Arsenal averaged 31.4 seconds per restart vs Brighton.
#BHAFC average 26.5 seconds per restart this season but averaged 38.7 vs Man City (H), 33.7 vs Chelsea (A) & 33.2 vs Brentford (A).
Common dominator? They won all three matches.
Context is key. ⬇️

Essentially if you think the football isn’t great in the PL this season, imagine how shit it would be without all the setpiece goals. We’d have broken records for 0-0 draws by now.
The fact that more goals are being scored from corners should, logically, mean the spectacle of a corner is more entertaining than it has ever been. The reliance on them is a symptom of what is happening in open play. If you think there is a problem to solve that is where you really need to start. (Obvs accept that grappling and time taken to take corners could be clamped down on).
Corners have always happened in football and are not happening any more often now. They have never been aesthetically pleasing. Players have always grappled in the area. How corners are in the Premier League now has little to no impact on the overall spectacle of a game. They are becoming more prominent because of what is happening in open play with really good mid to low blocks and an equalisation of talent in the league.
Arsenal - a team pushing for a Premier League title with no financial chicanery and whilst virtually breaking even. Something rather excellent about that. Column. #afc https://t.co/Xmyn2UlzA4
