🚨 Peter Jackson had, in recent months, confirmed that he and Warner Bros. were actively in talks with the Tolkien Estate to acquire the film rights to The Silmarillion.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Jackson revealed that discussions have finally become possible because a “new generation” within the Tolkien Estate is now more open to adaptations than in the past.

For years, Christopher Tolkien strongly opposed Hollywood interpretations of his father’s deeper mythology, fiercely protecting works like The Silmarillion from being turned into films.

But now, the door may finally be opening.

And if this actually happens…

Middle-earth could expand far beyond Hobbits, Rings, and the War of the Ring.

Because The Silmarillion is Tolkien’s true mythological epic.

The creation of Arda.

The rise of Morgoth.

The wars of the First Age.

The fall of kingdoms.

The birth of Sauron’s darkness.

Stories so massive, tragic, and ancient that even The Lord of the Rings feels small beside them.

Jackson also explained that he’s excited by the idea of finally adapting complete standalone stories instead of relying only on the brief historical appendices attached to LOTR.

And fans are already dreaming about what this could mean:

Beren and Lúthien.

The Children of Húrin.

The Fall of Gondolin.

The Fall of Númenor.

Right now, the project remains in early negotiations, and no official deal has been finalized yet.

But for Tolkien fans…
