The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at SRM University-AP hosted the first session of the Guest Expert Lecture Series 2025 on 24th March 2025. The lecture featured esteemed scholar Prof. Alan Fryar, Professor at the University of Kentucky, USA. His insightful session focused on pressing global issues concerning groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and environmental sustainability.
With over 50 attendees, including 13 faculty members, 22 PhD scholars and professionals, and 15 postgraduate students, the event was a resounding success in fostering academic dialogue and global awareness. Prof. Fryar's expertise—bolstered by accolades like the James B. Thompson Distinguished International Lecturer and Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowship—offered participants a rich perspective on sustainable water resource management.
The lecture not only inspired students and researchers but also sparked potential collaborations and broadened the horizons of environmental research. The event was coordinated by Dr. Saikat Sinha Ray, who ensured smooth execution and meaningful engagement.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Fryar for his invaluable contribution and look forward to future lectures in this impactful series.

SRM University-AP proudly celebrates the latest research contribution by Dr. Kousik Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. His latest study, titled "Groundwater discharge and bank overtopping drive large carbon exports from Indian Sundarban mangroves", has been published in the Q1 journal Science of The Total Environment (Impact Factor: 8.2).
The research unveils how groundwater discharge and bank overtopping significantly influence carbon exports from the Sundarbans, one of the world’s largest mangrove ecosystems. This study is crucial in understanding blue carbon dynamics, offering insights into the region’s role in global carbon cycling and climate change mitigation. By shedding light on the intricate interactions between hydrology and carbon fluxes, this research paves the way for more effective coastal conservation and carbon sequestration strategies.

@Barefoot_Lab That’s true and unethical. One reviewer asked to cite references those are not even have any connection. Eventually paper got rejected without any explanation.
Ok tenure-track moms out there. I learned that only 35% of married moms in the sciences get tenure. I asked the presenter/mentor what can be done to increase these #s. She said stop cleaning toilets (aka hire someone to clean) & and hire someone to cook my meals. @Momademia
