My son is refereeing local Auckland rugby, because he loves the game. The newbies wear a jersey that says "FIRST YEAR REFEREE". Last week he looked after an under 15s outer suburban high school game. Abused by ADULT coaches, including one who crossed the sideline (illegal) and walked over to the kicking tee to abuse him.
It was all he thought about all week.
Do they want kids to referee? And what example is being set to the players here? Grow up people.
@post_liberal Warrington also fortunate to have the tubula rasa that was RAF Burtonwood within its boundary. You can see its ghost in the couple of hangers that still stand along the M62.
@AndyBurnhamGM Pretending that no one in Orrell or anywhere else in "Makerfield" will notice that we're going through this farrago because none of the 410 current Labour MPs has the nous or ability to replace the incumbent PM. Clown car of a party.
@ajlees There are probably two types of people: those who work in hospitals and those who visit/get admitted. As one of the latter, I can't watch a hospital film unless Gerald Thomas or Richard Gordon were involved in its production.
@thesundaysport I thought the technical term for such vehicles is "sh@gging wagons". As Elaine said on Seinfeld, "If this van's rockin' don't come knockin'".
@post_liberal Excellent. Wigan has much in common with both St Helens and Widnes. I would have said Warrington too, but the former new town seems to have transformed it beyond recognition. All situated on the South Lancs coalfield.
@DefenceGeek@CountBinface Wigan Council empty the general waste bin every three weeks. The paper, glass and plastic, and garden waste on other cycles. (Spy stuff, courtesy of the wife).
@FUDdaily@GoodwinMJ As a registered elector in the "Makerfield" constituency, I despair at the quality of candidate/party being touted. This by election is a metaphor for Britain's decline.
@GroomB Wigan gave us George Formby AND Frank Randall. For these gifts we are truly grateful. (St Helens could only manage Bernie Clifton and Robert Dorning).
@post_liberal Yes, but St Helens had quite a few Tory clubs. Might be due partly to the fact that the town was dominated by the Pilkington family, and the predominant union was the General and Municipal, the most supine organised labour outfit at the time.
