Mark Douglas said that a huge portion of trading errors comes from our attitude toward losing money.
This hit home because in my first few years, I didn’t just "hate losing money," but I feared it.
Every red trade felt like I wasn’t good enough, that I was regressing, or that all the work I had put in didn’t matter. So I tried to avoid losses at all costs.
I’d cut winners too early to “lock something in.”
I’d hesitate on valid entries because I didn’t want another red day.
and ironically, I’d sometimes let losses grow larger than planned because admitting defeat felt worse than the money itself.
This mindset was sabotaging my own process.
The uncomfortable truth is that losing money is not the problem (they are unavoidable).
... but uncontrolled losses are.
and when you’re wired to see any loss as failure, you start making decisions to protect your ego instead of surviving another day.
It wasn't until I accepted that losses are simply the cost of doing business that my behavior towards them changed. A loss stopped being something to avoid and became something to manage, and that distinction is subtle, but it’s everything.
Unprofitable traders often obsess over avoiding red trades instead of building a system where losses are expected, predefined, and emotionally neutral. When I wasn't consistent, I wanted certainty in an environment that offered none.
and they think consistency comes from being right more often, when in reality it comes from losing the right way over and over again.
I still don’t enjoy losing money (no one does), but I no longer fear it. If my risk is defined and my process is followed, a loss is simply a feedback loop.
It tells me nothing about my worth, my intelligence, or my future results. It’s just one data point in a long series of trades.
and I’ll be honest, I don’t have this all figured out. Some days are harder than others -- there are still moments when I feel the urge to protect myself instead of executing my plan. But awareness has given me leverage, and I know now that every time I hesitate because I’m afraid to lose, I’m training myself to distrust my edge.
Trading forces you to go against how humans are naturally wired, because we want comfort, we want validation, and we want to avoid pain...
The market demands the opposite:
discipline, acceptance, and delayed gratification.
That’s why this is a never ending journey, and it's more about refining yourself, because my progress started when I stopped trying to eliminate losses and began learning how to coexist with them.
because that’s when consistency becomes possible.
Every millionaire trader I've studied understands this one concept, most never will:
Look for coiled price action.
Think of price like a spring.
When it compresses, tight range, low volume, higher lows; it’s storing energy.
The tighter the coil, the bigger the potential release.
Your job isn’t to predict, it’s to recognize pressure building.
Then position yourself before the spring explodes, @jfsrev said it best.
Apply this mindset when analyzing charts… and you’ll start spotting opportunities most traders miss.

My VN plan was to come to a tropical climate, chill and enjoy cloudy days as much as sunny days. My plan worked
I work when it's coudy, I do the beach when the sun comes out, it's like a british summer every week instead of every year
I also planned to spend my work time..
