@PatriciaDeLille @Kgosientsho_R The import duty on cars can be used to finance an EV charger rollout plan. We should drop the import duty on EV's: no one in SA makes EV's, so the import duty should only be on petrol/diesel vehicles. An EV charger construction project could employ more people than making cars.

We need to kick-start EV adoption, to reduce pollution, increase road safety, and all the other benefits of EV's over petrol/diesel vehicles.

@TheAgenda_SABC Govt put out a tender for 2GW of emergency power for R40B. An off-the-shelf 5kW rooftop solar system costs about R100k, so 400,000 installations can deliver 2GW, and would cost R40B. 800 teams could install these in 2 years.
