@MoreOurselves @ArchTesta @JurajMikurcik @AndrewMichler @AR_Clarke I've just had to replace the bearings in the ebmpapst fans in my Paul Novus unit after 6 years.
Same style of 2Z / ZZ bearings with metal 'shields' rather than rubber seals; I decided to use replacements with seals - a bit more friction but better for stopping moisture ingress.
@stevieby@sarah_go_green Yep; like Steve said, for a Router a more conventional Uninterruptible Power Supply would probably be the better way to go. The Ecoflow looks like it emphasises the portability aspect - and it's a lot of money!

But the penalty for being wrong is near zero. You can migrate to a different instance and drag all your followers along with you. This is maybe the single coolest feature of Mastodon; lock-in is engineered out. The Masto community needs to do better at getting this message across
What are the best ways to store energy (or, more specifically, electricity)?
A running thread on electricity storage technologies that could help us get to a 100% renewable grid 🧵

This blog post with a weird title I could never improve also has a shitload of advice for techies wanting to save the world. Strongly recommend it if you've got a job hunt ahead of you OR you've got time on your hands now. https://t.co/yzYzkF6hYW
Energy efficiency in the UK is now more sought after than traditional home features like a garden or off-street parking.
Research from @santanderuk found buyers pay almost 10% more for homes that have been retrofitted with energy efficiency upgrades.

@mwt2008 If you happen to find a dead bird of prey, it’s a good idea to see whether there’s an organisation interested in doing tests on the body to check for a build-up of chemicals. In the UK try https://t.co/1yE6sCyyz8
@Neal_UK@sarah_go_green@OctopusEnergy Good point Neal; thanks. I didn't spot the Ohme listed in the Intelligent Octopus FAQs but now I see it's mentioned on the main page.
I have a different smart-ish charger already.
@jesseb4me I have a 200 litre cylinder and while it's well insulated it still loses 5 degrees in 12 hours (58 -> 53) - and makes the plant room hot.
One benefit of a Sunamp is that there's much less heat loss so it's better at preserving hot water from one day to the next; good for low use.
@Gill_Nowell @OctopusEnergy I get that sometimes too; looks like it's a bug in the app. Normally if you refresh the "My Energy" page and re-view the Tariff both rates show up.
@murphbruce@DrSimEvans @NigelBanks_ilke @DiddlySquat51 Still need the Ventilation in summer, and it's easier & more secure than opening windows.
Typically there's a By-Pass which opens automatically to take the heat exchanger out of the circuit when Heat Recovery isn't desirable.
@DrSimEvans @NigelBanks_ilke @DiddlySquat51 I wasn't sure what consumption to expect from my MVHR so had it installed with a dedicated electricity meter (a small DIN-rail mount one in the consumer unit).
My MVHR system, a PAUL Novus 450, is consistently using 1kWh per day on the '1' (Low) setting.
