@zvlasov @devahaz The school situation adds another horrible layer of risk. Even if you buy, there’s no guarantee your kids get into the neighborhood school, they can end up assigned to a crappy one across town because of the lottery.

@fordsmith @devahaz Honestly when I ran the numbers rigorously my first reaction was "why is anyone buying a house?" The math is brutal once you account for property tax, insurance, maintenance, and what that down payment could've done in the stock market. California prices just make it worse.
