Ring laser gyros and their kin are pretty nifty.
They also are so accurate they detect Absolute Rotation. (Rotation *is not* relative in our universe!)
This caused a confusing bug when they were developed because the gyro would "flip 180 degrees" every 12 hours.

10 years ago today, people said we were crazy to pedestrianize Broadway. Today, it would be crazy to bring the cars back. Times Square wasn’t just a public space project, it was the start of a global revolution in how cities think about their streets.
The new Central Subway, starting service end of next year, will transform transit in San Francisco. On the day it opens, combined w the T line, it’ll be the highest ridership light rail line. As I’ve said, we should always have a subway under construction. https://t.co/05ap0ib4jf
I’m introducing an aggressive housing legislative package: 1) require denser/taller zoning near public transit, 2) require cities’ housing goals be based on actual future growth & make up for past deficits, & 3) make it easier to build farmworker housing. https://t.co/YLQ9djH5pN
I’m going to go out on a limb and say there probably have never been semi truck announcement viewing parties before this Thursday. https://t.co/Xp4bm6lQUg
