I don't think people realise quite how odd this all is. The history of medicine is one of relentless improvement in health, against seemingly improbable odds. In my 30 years as a doctor, just some of the things I have seen:
spending billions on a supposedly liberatory techno-utopia that should, in theory, allow us to occupy any reality we can imagine, and just filling it with facsimiles of all the bland retail experiences of our present, because we can no longer conceive of anything else. i love it

Not much of what we do today will stop what's going to happen wrt sea level rise and extreme storms. It's going to get worse. We are going to have to adapt.
