@oilers49er From an entertainment standpoint, and from a hockey one too. I hope he goes hard on this for Babcock’s entire tenure. Rightly or wrongly, the Oil brought in someone to flog the horses. At the same time, some people need to hold his feet to the fire and Gregor is pot committed.
@TopTierPucks Not saying I necessarily agree with the move or predict success, but the basic “why” argument is obvious to me. The 2025-2026 Oilers looked complacent. No one will stir the drink harder than Babcock.
@Erykson_X@FeelYouHappy Looks to me like it is some of his teammates that need to humble themselves, not Ronaldo. In the video, they are playing selfishly and aren’t making the best play for the team.
@rationalyankee Lifelong Jays fan and Yankees hater here. There are parameters for the clock and delays. Stick to those. He can delay within the rules. This is an ump who is annoyed and then delaying the game himself getting his 15 minutes of fame.
@BarryOnHere Nope. Int rate was best & that matters way more than fans think. Could’ve thrown for more stats taking more risk but chose winning . Totally clutch passer when needed. Ridiculous on 4th and 1. Reads made everyone better. He didn’t cheat. Research that, don’t accept lazy narrative
@Harian_Mossa@_NotDisabled@TopTierPucks Right so say 6.5 to replace his minutes if they trade him, or another team wants that level of D man. Oilers won’t accomplish anything by retaining. There have to be teams who will become better by adding Nurse & have enough cap room that the overpayment doesn’t matter much
@Harian_Mossa@_NotDisabled@TopTierPucks So couple things: last year was down year for Nurse. Probably not going to be valued based on one year only. Secondly, my question is about value to replace. Signing $ under current cap will be larger. Many people that know more than you and I put his value between 6-7.
@Harian_Mossa@_NotDisabled@TopTierPucks Serious question. By how much do you think he’s overpaid? Put differently, what would a player of Nurse’s metrics cost on the open market for a four year deal with today’s cap?
@TopTierPucks Agree it shouldn’t cost a first, but do you have faith Bowman and Jackson won’t spend a first anyway? Analyzing their moves the past 750 days it seems like the pattern is to eliminate all first round picks and cap space.
@JasonGregor Hard agree with this take. And though he’s overpaid, it’s not by as much as the mob intonation. In your view, Jason, how much would it cost under the current cap to sign an equivalent D?
@OilersJack If they retain then the trade is of limited value. He’s overpaid but by how much really? First pairing D on half the nhl teams, second on the others. What would it cost to replace him with an equivalent player? Probably 6M +\- 0.5M. Best targets are those with plenty of cap space
@kieranwgoodwin Fundamentally PE functions to maximize investor returns over relatively short time, so wherever it goes is usually not good for the customer near term. However, to the degree they overcharge or underserve, there’s an opportunity for entrepreneurs to do better by the customer.
