@PicturesFoIder I have a fear that society, if it still exists, will be even more dystopian than it is today. I'd still do it. Is it available for the slightly not-rich? I mean when it's over it's over, but if it's not... 🤷
@mirrorblack100@LifeThruBook@PhysInHistory There can't be a universal time because time is only relevant to an observer. Time dilation is just the disagreement in clocks. It's not a physical property.
Aliens would have no need to compare clocks with us. But they may compare clocks with their home.
@crazyclipsonly Social media fame-race and the 'die on this hill' mindset both contributed to the communication breakdown of a small misunderstanding. It makes more opportunities for everyone to hate each other for such an easy problem to solve.
@DKiSAerospace This is a common misunderstanding about rockets and escape velocity. The shuttle didn't escape gravity with an initial velocity of 11km/s. Indeed that would destroy the ship. Rockets push out of the atmosphere gradually under thrust, with constant effort.
@tash2data@PhysInHistory Distance to Proxima Centauri is 4.2 light years.
A traveler moving at 0.9999 the speed of light will get there in 22 earth days, return at the same speed in 22 days. The traveler is 44 days older, and the observer is 8.4 years older.
@OhHowByronic My work cell went off but since I don't own it, it didn't affect me. So, I just pretended to be a zombie all day to fit in at work. #EmergencyAlertSystem
