In 2022, I wrote a post that set off a debate about the political divide between young men and women.
Four years, many polls, & hundreds of interviews later, I'm excited to announce the book documenting what's happening to Gen Z men and women and why.

In the last five years there has been a 20-point drop among Republicans saying "gay or lesbian relations" is morally acceptable. This is an astounding shift.
Right. This presumes that children raised by conservative and liberal parents adopt their politics at about the same rate. They don't. Young women raised by conservative parents are far less likely to ID as conservative than young men and women raised by liberals.
This trend is meaningful and unprecedented, but I'd like to know how many of those who say college is not very important *in general* still believe it's important for their own kids.
A refreshing challenge to the heteropessimists. Things btw. men and women are not so bad that they cannot be fixed with a little effort. We just have to want to. @magdajtaylor

" In one study, he and his team examined personal statements from more than 370,000 students, and found that after ChatGPT became available, their essays suddenly used diverse and colorful language, but lacked truly creative ideas."

@texasrunnerDFW@FoxNews I'd argue that this is a critical social learning experience for kids too. Being in a public space and learning how to behave is part of growing up!
Obviously this is rage bait, but the vast majority of parents are not taking their kids to "romantic" restaurants and I'd wager most are eating much earlier than those w/o kids.
Our preferred dining time when our kids were toddlers was about 5pm.
No one wants a romantic dinner ruined by a screaming child at the next table.
According to a new survey, 75% of Americans say restaurants should offer some kind of adults-only dining experience to avoid unruly kids.
That includes child-free sections, restrictions during late-night hours, and quieter dining environments focused more on the experience than family-friendly chaos.
Perhaps it has something to do with this...
If you didn't grow up contributing to family meals, seeing how they are prepared it's probably more difficult to do it yourself as an adult.
Enjoying @freyaindiaa's new book GIRLS. It traces some familiar trends, but offers a unique and valuable perspective.
One of my favorite parts:
"We were told to avoid obligations to other people ... So we served ourselves instead."
Compelling read by @ChrisMurphyCT about youth travel sports.
Parents and "profit-hungry" clubs have:
"produced a youth-sports culture in which profit and individual achievement matter more than teamwork or character building."

🚨Report: Pizza Hut franchises across the country are being converted into “Pizza Hut Classic” locations as the chain moves to revive the nostalgic look of its classic restaurants in 2026. 80 locations will be remodeled this year.
It's more and more clear that a perfect storm of a) Covid and b) social media fundamentally changed how young people hang out.
Gen Z is now less interested in living in tight knit communities than any other generation. h/t @dcoxpolls
Notable findings from our new survey in this week's Storylines...
Who cares about kindness?
What do the parents of teenagers really worry about?
Is Gen Z prioritizing community (or only talking about it)?

A few of the findings from the American Neighbor Survey that didn't make it into our report were the subject of this week's American Storylines: what teens' parents worry about, America's kindness deficit, and who wants to live in a close-knit community: https://t.co/ZNAKq3RzZr
An incredible piece on pre-teen experiences, ideals and aspirations. A sixth grade girl on...
Marriage: "More hassle"
Children: "They’re annoying, and they steal your money"
Boys: "Either jerks, ugly, or both"
Global warming: "We’re not gonna make it"

**NEW SURVEY ALERT**
Poking my head up from book editing to share a brand new survey on the state of social life in American neighborhoods. We looked at:
What it means to be a "good neighbor"
Neighborly disputes
The class divide
Decline in socializing
