@jaycrosstweets@salinasmario2 I know I read an interview with Sean Smith where he talked about designing WAR to create a stat that showed Eckstein’s value to the Angels in a way that other stats of the day didn’t—but, to be honest, it was a long time ago and I’m not having much luck finding it now
@jaycrosstweets@salinasmario2 I loved Eckstein! It’s just simply true that the guy who came up with the WAR formula designed it to maximize Eckstein’s value
@phre3dum@vanillaopinions The old city cemeteries like the one I’m talking about are beautiful gardens that happen to have graves there. They’re as nice a place to visit as any park
@zy8oSgcJVi60503@PaladinAshe People treat this as some impossible standard, but I’m objectively all of this and no woman has ever looked at me twice. Actual standards are way tighter than this
@hosepipehitter@FWPlayboy Yes. They string the guys along for a while—“I just want to take things slow, make it special”—and when they can’t keep it going any longer they move onto the next one
@Andrew_Semenza Yes, some men are actually terrible. But many basically normal guys end up being conditioned to believe that there is something undefinably and unfixably wrong about their personality
@Andrew_Semenza It’s basically tautological—guys who consider themselves kind and decent are told, “Well, if you really were, it would have worked by now. You must be doing something wrong.”
@EOpsych@rebeccarightnow I think a lot of it is that veganism in the US is stereotypically associated with a certain kind of well-off white person, so people decide that you have to be rich to do it, rather than actually considering what it costs compared to eating meat
@lizisamused As a 6’1” millennial man who’s never dated anyone, the current obsession with height is so bizarre to me. All my best friends in high school were tall undateable nerds. We never thought of height as any sort of advantage
@lxeagle17 It’s true that two is a small sample, but when you can only run a trial every four years and the downsides of failure are so high, it’s kind of hard to wait for a large enough sample before you determine if the effect is real
@davidgross_man That same episode also has a joke about their new house being so futuristic it has a robot vacuum cleaner, and Bart being an idiot because he can’t read cursive
