@robertgraham NPR did a segment on political ads last year. Turns out that negative campaign ads are generally not received well and the vast majority of voters are unaffected by them. But the small % of voters that ARE affected make it worthwhile to run those ads, especially in tight races.
@engineers_feed Thinking about it visually:
Complete the square so that it’s 4x4 = 16
Subtract half = 8
Subtract the imaginary 2.5 squares added to the right column = 5.5
Subtract half the top row = 3.5
@eyeslasho Sober drivers commit vehicular homicide at nearly 4 times the rate that drunk drivers do. Should you hit the bottle before you hit the road in the name of safety?
Musk claims he gets his news from Twitter rather than legacy media. In the past several hours, I've seen tweets confidently saying that Hamas go their weapons from:
- Ukraine
- Russia
- Iran
- Afghanistan
None of them cited a source for such information. All were promoting some sort of political angle, meaning, not simply reporting this "fact" but using this "fact" to argue some other point.
The legacy media is silent on this point, precisely because nobody knows yet where Hamas got all their weaponry.
On the other hand, Twitter is full of first hand information, from individuals on the streets showing first hand the horrors of war. You'll see a lot that's not adequately conveyed in the media, including horrors the media would never themselves show because it would offend/disturb too many people.
But, these videos, pictures, and first-hand accounts are drowned by both spam and memes. For everything original and authentic you can find, you be smothered by copies, spam, fakes, distorted versions of those things.
Twitter certainly gives a perspective that legacy news media is unable to give, but at the same, it's horribly unreliable in ways even bias news media isn't.
@10x_er It’s the page flipping for me. Sometimes you want to go back to something you read earlier and have a pretty good sense of how many pages back it is so you’re able to flip to it quickly. Then you can keep both pages open and flip back and forth rapidly if you need to.
I decided today that I’m going to see if I can find the restaurant with the highest number of brothers. I am on strike and have nothing better to do with my time. Please join me.
@FoxNews Conservatives be like "oh no! the comic book series featuring a human-penguin hybrid teaming up with a woman that thinks she's a cat has finally crossed the line at man becomes pregnant."
@Ozzy09252@zerohedge And the story you read was corrected and now you think there’s some conspiracy to conceal the truth by NBC instead of it being a mistake. If it wasn’t a mistake then someone else could simply report the truth. i.e. Fox News. Instead FN and zerohedge report on the correction..
@Ozzy09252@zerohedge If that statement wasn’t made in error, then why hasn’t another journalist corroborated and reported what the Russian lawyer said?
@ggreenwald Caraballo isn't insinuating anything. Those were the literal words out of that man's mouth: "I'm republican.. I'm mormon.. we don't do gay." If anything, HE is insinuating those things.
