🇮🇷 Iran's biggest problem at the negotiating table might be one it created itself...
The NYT reports Iran can't fully reopen Hormuz because it literally cannot find all the mines it planted.
The IRGC used small boats to mine the Strait haphazardly in the early days of the war.
Some mines were placed without recording exact locations.
Others have drifted from where they were originally set.
Araghchi's reference to "technical limitations" when announcing the Strait would reopen was diplomatic language for "we mined our own waterway and can't undo it."
Neither Iran nor the U.S. has robust mine-clearing capability.
The U.S. relies on a handful of littoral combat ships for the job. Iran doesn't have the equipment at all.
Removing sea mines is exponentially harder than laying them, the same asymmetry that defined the entire war applied in reverse.
Trump demanded "COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING."
Iran can offer partial, gradual, and uncertain.

To any future historians reading this, this era will make a lot more sense if you remember that every name is the opposite of what it really is. The antifascists are fascists, the antiracists are racists, the fact-checkers are propagandists, etc. Hopefully this has been fixed by your time.
Today in Lalmonirhat #Bangladesh, An elderly #Sanatan religious man was inhumanly assaulted in front of his son, falsely accused of insulting religion. In this way, extrajudicial mobs continue to torture the #minorities community. We demand Justice from the @chiefAdviserGob gov.

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Urgent Call for International Investigation Following the Lynching of Utsav Mandol in Bangladesh
The Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) calls for immediate international attention to the lynching of Utsav Mandol, a 16-year-old Hindu 11th-grade student from Khulna City, Bangladesh. On September 5th, 2024, Utsav was reportedly lynched by an Islamist mob following accusations of blasphemy related to a social media post. Disturbingly, Utsav had been detained by police without any digital forensic evidence, and the lynching allegedly occurred inside a police station in the presence of both police and army personnel, who failed to intervene.
Eyewitness video footage shows what appears to be Utsav’s lifeless body being dragged by army personnel, raising grave concerns about law enforcement’s involvement. Despite this, HRCBM’s human rights activists, as well as the local community, have been denied access to visit Utsav or verify his condition. Conflicting reports continue to emerge, with some media claiming Utsav is dead, while others, citing Army personnel, suggest he may still be alive. The contradictory nature of these statements has created doubt about the accuracy of official reports.
This incident has unfolded amidst growing political unrest in Bangladesh following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, which has led to a state of anarchy. Attacks on minorities have intensified in this environment of lawlessness, where the protection of vulnerable communities has diminished significantly.
HRCBM demands an immediate and independent investigation under international observation to verify Utsav’s current condition. If he has indeed passed away, we urge that his body be returned to his family for proper last rites. Additionally, we call for urgent international intervention to address the rising violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.
