CLIMATE-INDUCED MIGRATION POLICY
Call to formulate a unified policy within Horn of Africa member states
Binding policy will help curb the rampant conflicts leading to fatalities within border communities
📍Mombasa, Kenya 🇰🇪
Regional representatives from Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan and Tanzania gathered in Mombasa for a five-day capacity development training on climate-induced migration and the intersection of climate change, conflict, and human mobility.
Discussions underscored climate change as a threat multiplier, intensifying resource pressures and increasing displacement risks across Eastern Africa. Participants highlighted the need for stronger policies, regional collaboration and climate-resilient livelihoods to protect vulnerable communities.
Turning climate and mobility challenges into actionable, people-centered solutions is key to safeguarding lives and livelihoods.

@AKabelo Dear Hon. TMT, MP elect for Isiolo South,Congratulations on your election.
Please consider this wise counsel from Adan and yield to it, I encourage you to extend a hand to your sister, Bina. Political contestation should not break your family bond, she remains your elder sister.
I attended the Qilta Korma Women Groups Fundraiser at Marsabit Stadium in my home county of Marsabit, inspired by the powerful theme, 'Empowered Women, Stronger Society.' It is a truth I hold fundamental: when women are empowered, they uplift entire families, strengthen the very fabric of our communities, and tirelessly build a better future for everyone.
I have taken it upon myself to empower thousands of youth and women, and I stand by my promise to continue uplifting all communities in this nation and, in particular, Marsabit County. This is not a momentary pledge but a sustained commitment to fostering opportunity and unlocking the immense potential within our people.
I also urged all residents to actively support the government’s agenda and to endorse President H.E. Dr. @WilliamsRuto for a second term. This continuity is vital for completing the visionary development projects already underway and for ensuring the enduring service our nation deserves.
I extend special thanks to: Sir Farouk Kibet; Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, Senate Majority Leader; Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah - Majority Leader of the National Assembly; H.E Mohamud Ali - Governor Marsabit, Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed - MP for Lafey; Hon. John Bwire -MP for Taveta; Hon. My childhood friend and classmate Adan Wario Kabelo @AKabelo sent me a personal testimony of his experience closely working with Rt Hon Raila Odinga for many years via WhatsApp:
Here it is verbatim:
Raila Odinga: The man who sacrificed himself so Kenya could stand
Baba was a people’s person in every sense of the word. He never needed to rent a crowd or manufacture popularity the way others did. People followed him because they felt him, his truth, his conviction, his heart. He was genuine. He spoke his mind without fear or favor. He refused to buy voters or exploit the vulnerable. Instead, he reminded Kenyans of their rights, their dignity and their power.
Even though the presidency never came within his reach, he was already serving Kenya. He did not need a title to act. He did not need the trappings of office to uplift his people. He simply did what he felt was right for the nation he loved.
Baba had near-misses to State House, but he never carried bitterness. He never held grudges against his competitors. He mentored many, even those who later betrayed him. His mission was bigger than individuals and politics. He chose to rise above personal pain for the sake of the country.
He was larger than life even now in death. He sacrificed his health, his comfort and precious time with his family for Kenya. He belonged to the people and the people belonged to him.
I remember flying with him to my rural home in Merti. It was his first time there. He lit up the entire community with his wisdom and understanding. He spoke with depth about the historical injustices they had faced, matters many national leaders never understood or ignored. He did not just hear people, he understood them.
I hosted him three times in Isiolo town. In his usual style, he energized the public, not with theatrics, but with presence and truth. He knew the boundary issues in Isiolo intimately. On our way from the Lewa Airstrip into town, he pointed out to me where the Meru–Isiolo boundary lay. I was surprised that very spot was exactly where local elders always mentioned. That was Baba. He was informed, attentive and deeply connected to the people and their history.
He never needed a script. He never needed a staged rally. His sincerity was his magnet. His courage was his signature. His love for Kenya was his compass.
Kenya will feel orphaned without Baba. We will feel the void of a voice that spoke truth to power and hope to the people. We will miss a man who walked among us without pretension, who carried our pain as though it were his own and who gave everything without reservation for the dream of a just nation.
Raila Amolo Odinga was not just a leader. He was a spirit, a movement, a father to a nation's conscience.
Rest well, Baba. Your footsteps remain in our hearts, your courage in our memory and your dream in our hearts.

The Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir, today visited Marsabit County where, accompanied by the CEC for Water Services, Hon. Grace Galmo, he toured the long-stalled Badasa Dam site. Construction began over a decade ago but has remained incomplete for twelve years, denying thousands of residents in Marsabit Town and its environs the reliable water supply it was intended to provide. He also inspected the Bakuli Dam works and assessed progress on the Marsabit Sewerage Project.
