#bbcqt the lady on the panel said it. Why can’t they just charge IHT on estates that are sold within say 10 years? Solves the problem of those using for wealth and those genuinely farming for the country.

@RachelReevesMP why don’t you allow farms and businesses that are inherited but continue to run, to maintain the 100% relief. But if they sell within 10 years then they pay IHT at full rate with the same relief as everyone else in the country. Taxes less estates but higher rates.

@MartinSLewis Problem is, some of these are dangerous for customers. People see an opportunity to take a payment holiday or reduce payment by going to interest only and they don’t pay attention to how this can alter their future payments. Happened loads through covid.
