More guidance for foreign news desks. Memo 3.
Things are slipping again. Correspondents please note the following:
1) Lebanon is a country, even though majority Muslim. It includes ‘south Lebanon’. Another country setting up a ‘security zone’ there is called ‘an invasion.’

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market.
In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold.
These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time.
The trader seemingly made huge gains.
Unusual.
Did YOU want to watch CCTV's AI Martial Arts cartoon about the Straits of Hormuz crisis? Complete with fighting Persian Cats? Well I subtitled it for you so you can enjoy it in all its trope-laden glory! Remember kids, the mountains will stay standing while the green water flows, and the true art of war is not figuring out how to fight, but how to stop!🥷😼🦅
This is a huge story in China right now given how big an outcry the installation of this caused back in 2017: Chinese tourism to South Korea was stopped, the Lotte Group was essentially shut down in China (nearly all of Lotte Mart's 112 Chinese stores were closed down due to "fire safety issues"), Hyundai and Kia had to close factories, k-pop disappeared from Chinese media, etc.
And now the US is just dismantling it to send it to the Middle-East...
So, quite literally, to have this, South Korea endured tens of billions in economic damage and did enormous harm to its relationship with its neighbor and largest trading partner... only for the US to take it back whenever it suited them.
The lesson writes itself.
The world, Europe, and Spain have faced this critical moment before. In 2003, a few irresponsible leaders dragged us into an illegal war in the Middle East that brought nothing but insecurity and pain.
Our response then must be our response now:
NO to violations of international law.
NO to the illusion that we can solve the world’s problems with bombs.
NO to repeating the mistakes of the past.
NO TO WAR.

@PrncssZryzl@History__Speaks@NiohBerg His stats about literacy are about right: https://t.co/v2bjN7fkSz
His cousin-marriage stats are wrong though. It's higher now than it was before. https://t.co/8z9w2LmvB3
Khamenei is dead. Good.
But I have family in Iran. My dad is there right now. And I'm not celebrating yet. Here's why.
Iran built the most layered contingency plan on Earth for this exact moment. Four levels of succession for every key position. Pre-authorized military strikes. Regional commanders who don't need orders from Tehran to act.
As you read this, there is already a new Supreme Leader. We just don't know who.
This isn't Maduro. The government didn't get overthrown. The system absorbed the hit. That's what it was designed to do.
Every credible intel assessment says the same thing: a post-Khamenei Iran is more likely to get harder, not softer. More IRGC. More dangerous. Potentially worse for the Iranian people than Khamenei himself.
Don't breathe yet. There's a long way to go.
@tomaspueyo@CausewayW The effects of colonialism (on the colonised) are long lasting and almost always very negative. I'm guessing you don't live in a former colonised country.
@NdzaviDerrick Considering that 1 in 5 South Africans have a negative net worth (1 in 2 if you don't account for home ownership), it's not surprising.
That's what massive wealth inequality gets you.
@AntSpeaks How many weapons does the UK sell to Iran?
How much trade does the UK conduct with Iran?
Is Iran part of Eurovision?
Looks like her work has already been done.
@AkkadSecretary I know this is a circle jerk and people are only here to reinforce their preconceptions, just keep in mind that whites are <10% of the population and very few are poor.
@thomasdenmark@tiberiusfiles Different orders of magnitude of poverty. I used to live in the UK, now I live in South Africa. In the UK, poor=can't afford to have a family, to feed. In SA, poor=can't afford not to have a family, to feed you.
