I used to buy those cheap sunglasses from the roadside all the time and always thought, "What's the point of buying expensive ones? I'm going to loose them anyway." Then one day, I gathered the courage and bought an expensive sunglasses. And guess what? I still have them. I've taken care of them ever since.
That's when I realized those cheap sunglasses weren't getting lost because they were cheap? They were getting lost because I didn't value them enough to care. It's hard to accept, but sometimes in someone else's story, you are that cheap pair of sunglasses.
Pedestrian arguments like this tire me bcos it plays into the hands of a government that’s not interested in fixing anything. Lack of Dirt or trash isn’t the reason why Netherlands does not flood! I don’t know why we keep going back to this topic!
The reason Amsterdam doesn’t flood is bcos of billions of dollars investment in world class flood protection engineering & technology.
Also Dubai floods every year too and Dubai isn’t dirty but they have terrible flood protection systems which they are currently investing billions of dollars building proper sewage reticulation systems, flood detentions systems, flood gates and levees, etc to fix the flood problems! Few years from now when flooding becomes a thing of history in Dubai you’ll be here still blaming Lagos’s dirtiness which is still a problem caused by inadequate government infrastructure for it.
Have you also ever asked yourself why no matter how badly Lagos floods, Eko Atlantic is NEVER flooded? The simple reason is bcos the private company that built & owns Eko Atlantic engaged the same Dutch engineers that designed the flood protection systems in the Netherlands to design that of Eko Atlantic!
Even if there’s no single trash in Lagos, Lagos will still be flooded every rainy season! Until we spend money on building flood protection infrastructure. Check out this video, to understand why the Netherlands doesn’t flood.

One reason why this kind of commentary is not useful is that this is what every politician says or implies. I don’t need to steal money because I am already rich. Or, I don’t like money, I have been using the same watch since 1905. Or I have no house in Abuja. This means absolutely nothing. What does it mean to a poor Nigerian to tell them you are already rich and this whole political adventure is even hurting you? Are you more hurt financially than any poor Nigerian who cannot buy kerosene or put food on the table?
Nigerian politicians who ruin the country or enable corruption don’t do it because they are poor. Or because they are stupid. They do it because the entire system runs on a massive cycle of pecuniary and parochial incentives.
Buhari as far as we know did not amass stupendous wealth as president but still he made the country significantly poorer. Nigerian politicians who are powerless in the face of elite capture of the state don’t need to be personally corrupt for this to happen.
We need politicians to have a clear workable plan for ending poverty, building infrastructure and institutions, reducing corruption, fighting terrorism and building a nation that isn’t balkanised between competing tribal interests that only serve those in power.
Nigeria doesn’t need another person who will tell them he is doing them a favor by running for office or that in fact he is getting poorer. We don’t need more of “I am a good guy, trust me bro.” What is your plan exactly? How will you deal with strongly entrenched interests who profit from this dysfunction and who would rather see the country break apart than lose their power and influence? Why should Nigerians who have heard these kinds of sweet nothings and who might see you as a regional champion (however wrong they may be) trust that you can actually do things differently and will not just capitulate once in power?
He might be the least problematic of the presidential candidates but his messaging is piss poor, and must improve if he is to get support beyond his current cult following, enough to successfully challenge the very determined incumbent.
Heavy rain started falling in Oyo State from 1am till around past 4:30a.m
If the same intense downpour happened where the kidnapped students and teachers are currently being held, it means they’ve been exposed to that heavy rain for over three hours straight.
That also means the 2 year old child was also soaked and helpless under the merciless rain. God, please have mercy. 💔💔
When you're dating someone who wants to grow with you, they will always bring up problems that doesn't sit right with them like not texting back faster, doing the little things like not keeping your candle streak. it's a sign that they value the relationship & truly want to make it work. they do it to help you avoid making the same mistake so the relationship continues to thrive.
The physics of what's happening in that 0.1 seconds of contact should bother you.
Those tires are completely stationary when they hit the ground. The plane is moving at 250 km/h. For the first fraction of a second, the rubber isn't rolling. It's skidding. Pure friction has to accelerate 22 wheels, each weighing 120 kg, from zero to 155 mph in roughly a tenth of a second.
The tread surface goes from -50°C at cruising altitude to over 200°C at the moment of contact. A 250-degree temperature swing in 0.1 seconds. The smoke you see at every commercial landing is rubber vaporizing off the tire surface. Studies at Manchester and Heathrow found that tire smoke at touchdown produces a greater magnitude of particulate emissions than the jet engines themselves.
The tires are inflated to 200 PSI, six times your car's tire pressure, and they're filled with nitrogen instead of air. Regular air contains moisture that would flash to steam and oxygen that could combust at those friction temperatures. Nitrogen eliminates both risks.
Each tire costs $5,500 and lasts about 250 landings before replacement. The A380 carries 22 of them. At max landing weight, those 22 contact patches are distributing 391 metric tons across roughly 15 square feet of rubber. That's 57,000 pounds per square foot.
The reason they don't pre-spin the wheels before landing, which would eliminate the skid and save millions in tire wear, is weight. Adding electric motors to 22 wheels increases fuel burn on every single flight. The math says it's cheaper to vaporize rubber 250 times and buy new tires than to carry the motors.
Husband has two laptops
One was given to him as a Work from home tool by the foreign bank he is working with
The other was his personal laptop with him he handles his personal business.
Wife’s father died in Nigeria
Husband was not given leave at work to travel abroad
Wife was as given compassionate leave
Wife pleads with husband to please show his face at the funeral
Husband decided to take the risk
He mirrored the office laptop to his personal laptop
Left it connected in such a way that he can work on it remotely using his personal computer and travelled with the family to Nigeria for work
Wife was aware of the risk the husband took
The plan was to travel to Nigeria on Friday and return to London on Sunday
They got to Nigeria
The husband set up his personal laptop at the hotel so that if any work call or email comes in he would attend to it immediately
It worked
He was able to work remotely and he was in the UK on Saturday morning
After this he went to the burial rites, greeted members of the family and paid his respects to all and sundry
When he got back to their room he discovered his laptop was gone
It was not stolen
He could see from all the disconnections and wires lying around that his wife took it
He rushed to the car and drove furiously to the wife’s parent’s house to ask her for his laptop
When he got there, he saw that his wife had handed it over to her older brother who had connected it to some amplifiers to play some of their father’s Fåvourite music to entertain her family
He didn’t think it would be proper to disrupt such a solemn family moment
So he went back to the hotel and waited anxiously for them to be done and for his laptop to be returned.
At almost midnight, the laptop was returned
By then the husband has gotten two messages from his team lead asking him where he was because he missed some tasks and his laptop indicated that he was in Nigeria
He reconnected his laptop and tried very hard to do some damage control.
He was livid and he didn’t fail to say so to his wife
According to the wife he said “You betrayed my trust, you took my work computer without regards for my sacrifices and well being to play music in loving memory of your father. You could have hired a DJ or bought a laptop somewhere in Lagos.
You knew the risk I took to be at this event with you and you decide to expose me this way.
You better pray I don’t lose my job over this. If I as much as get a query, this marriage is over”
Wife said she didn’t think that far.
Her brother asked her if she brought her laptop because he had carefully made a selection of their father’s Fåvourite songs on a flash drive and would like to play it at the house after the funeral while his friends and family member were still around to commiserate with their mother.
She said she went to the room to see if she could borrow her husband’s laptop and met his absence. So she just took it.
Innocent mistake.
They got back to the UK and husband’s job was terminated.
Husband is asking for a divorce
Wife is saying jobs are replaceable, a marriage is not.
How can an innocent mistake be the cause of their divorce?
Husband says the wife has always been like that
Lacking an understanding of boundaries and willing to throw anybody under the bus to get her desired result in anything she wanted to do.
He had told her he couldn’t travel because his office didn’t permit him
She prevailed on him to take the risk and then destroyed his carefully built wall of protection by removing the laptop from its connection
Wife said she didn’t intend to do any harm.
Just to play some music with the laptop
Husband said wife is deflecting and moved out of their apartment
Wife is asking what the big deal is…
