Anyone who says that chronic, severe pain can cause no harm and is not that painful nor dangerous has never experienced really severe pain, or they are profiting somehow by maintaining the false narrative.

Pain does have a function to help alert us when something is wrong or we are in a dangerous situation, but beyond that continuous pain for no beneficial reason can be very deadly.

In the ER recently a doctor told me I was making my pain and all other symptoms worse by breathing so fast and not calming down.

In a way he was right. I certainly was not making the situation better, but when severe pain is becoming even more severe with nothing to reduce it then I don’t know many people very likely including the doctor who could slow their breathing and relax while breathing calmly.

But to his credit he was doing everything possible to control the pain, and when what he was doing began to work I followed his advice to the letter: I slowed my breathing and did my best to calm down.

My doctor’s nurse called for the second time today. They wanted to know if I need an appointment ahead of the follow up scheduled in November

I had told them in a voicemail about the second hospital, and I think they are genuinely concerned that I’ve developed a problem

I called her back and left several voicemails so that they need not imagine what might be happening. I let them know that I would be sure to call if I need an appt, but right now I have a referral to a kidney specialist that the ER referred me to.

The ER said there is a minor problem that he can clear up, but they want him to have a look at a minor infection.

I also told them I am still in pain but not like it was when I had to go to to the ER. I actually like that Doctor and his nurse. I wish Doctors were free to do the best they can for their patients without having their freedom at risk from our government if they do try to help us.
