BREAKING: We just won our antitrust trial against @LiveNation and @Ticketmaster.
Live Nation has raked in billions in profits from an illegal monopoly that coerces venues, restricts artists, and exploits fans.
DC and a bipartisan coalition of 33 states refused to join DOJ's settlement because it failed to hold Live Nation accountable.
Now, a jury has declared Live Nation to be an illegal monopoly — and awarded damages for years of exploitation.
This is a massive win in the fight for fairness for local venues, artists, and fans.
@DCCarViolence@SafeSidewalksDC Or use washington circle to send it up Pennsylvania to Georgetown and then into M st. Gives a walking transfer to the foggy bottom metro stop.
@UrbanCourtyard Not quite fully passed yet. Has to get voted on a second time before it goes for the mayors signature (and Congress gets a say too). After all that, we probably won't know what the new codes are until the deadline next summer.
@_michaelstarnes@andrewdefrank Heavy rail and metro already parallel most of the highlighted highways. A new heavy rail bridge is under construction across the Potomac to double the passenger and freight rail capacity crossing between Virginia and DC. (https://t.co/KO5V0rtjuT)
The DC Council just passed legislation to allow single-stair apartment buildings up to six stories.
Allowing single-stair buildings:
✅ Reduces housing construction costs
✅ Enables housing on narrow city lots
✅ Facilitates more family-sized units
The bill passed unanimously.
@bobspecht@dcyimbys@OPinDC I see my post it on that board. From what I overheard, most of us present yesterday were calling for a significantly more ambitious vision/plan.
No absolutely not. There’s a metro stop right there.Want to invest in something actually useful? Invest in BRT with permanent dedicated lanes with ruthless enforcement 24\7 service and sub 15 min headways
@md_hallDC@maustermuhle It's a 25 minute walk to the closest metro station and then getting across town to work. Or I can commute straight to work in 20-25 minutes by bike. Why wouldn't I bike?
@DemolishSEblvd@Janeese4DC@kenyanmcduffie The transfer of the RFK site from NPS to DC requires DC to maintain a natural buffer along the rivers edge. No waterfront boardwalk allowed. But, the existing trail can be improved and can serve as a beautiful waterfront park between the river and the new development zones.
@kevinamezaga@leylaaa31@samprkr Drivers were pissed when the bike lanes were full of snow and we had to bike in the regular lanes for two+ weeks. I feel like DMV drivers became even more feral than usual in the aftermath of the storm.
@JustParkerHere I wouldn't even call it one block off of Florida Ave. The triangle park is so small that its basically on Florida. If this commisioner really cared about reducing noise she would be advocating for Florida NW to have the same bike lanes installed that we got in NE.
@quarter_rican@krystalball It's being phased in over the next few years. 2k can be provided as an expansion of an existing 3k system. Care for younger children (infants) is much more complicated. It is going to take time to create a system for infants and under 2s.
@EnergyLawJeff@aaronvandike@beyonddc It's been a minute since I looked at the plans. I believe it is mostly the same height as the other bridges, but slopes down to meet the shore. It would never get approved in the first place if it removed river traffic capability.
@Ralph_L8@beyonddc There is already a (too narrow) path on the 14th Street bridge. This offers a connection between long bridge park and east Potomac park, which are conveniently directly connected to bike path networks and are already high use cycling and pedestrian spaces. It's the right location
