In March 1989, the public sector Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation (BIBCOL) was set up in Bulandshahr to make India self-reliant in the manufacture of oral polio vaccine. This was an initiative in which Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had taken keen personal interest.
After years of national service to making India polio-free, BIBCOL fell on hard times. A few years ago it was reported that it would take up production of Covaxin but clearly that did not materialise. Now the Modi Govt has decided to close it down and will no doubt sell off its 60 or so acres close to the new Jewar International Airport.
What a tragedy this is.
Quick question on the #IDBI sale👇
If a bank can turn from double digit #NPA to multi thousand crore profits while under #LIC and public backing......
Why is private management still being sold as the only solution?
Shouldn't a performing institution remain a national asset?
