@vipintukur Yep. My daughter is T1D, and had a sustained honeymoon with low insulin requirements. Then she caught Covid (at school), and bam, her residual pancreatic function dropped to zero. Hopefully this research will help point to a way to reverse the damage!
@pickover If so, this avoids an “ultraviolet catastrophe” situation and makes the problem solvable. (A single calcium atom is approximately 10^-25 femurs.)
@Alexphysics13 Good rant. The crucial difference is that the high CO2 equivalent is only from UNBURNED RELEASED methane, which is minimal for Starship, barring a freak RUD in which it somehow doesn’t ignite. The CO2 footprint of structural material (steel) is amortized over many launches.
@RittOnTwitt75@mr_jay_pea It probably makes the most sense for just Maine to be on AST. The rest of New England is politically/logistically trickier, for sure.
@RittOnTwitt75@mr_jay_pea If Maine or New England wants to move to Atlantic Standard Time, more power to them. (It’s the one region of the country where it arguably makes sense.) Everywhere else, permanent Standard Time in the current zones is much better.
@thedooberhead Wow. Mine just gave me a forward collision warning for a car that was PARKED in a LOT separated by a GRASSY EMBANKMENT from the road I was driving on. Robotaxi this decade? Lol
@FerragamoWx This is amazing!! Curious, where’s Hurricane Sandy (2012)? Was it excluded because it was technically a “post-tropical cyclone” at landfall, even though it still had hurricane-force (Cat 1) sustained winds? How much would the map change if such storms/landfalls were included?
@SMC_35@robbystarbuck It’s winter that makes it darker early. Standard time balances the sunlight between morning and evening. DST darkens mornings to make afternoons brighter. Bright mornings (at least, not pitch-dark mornings as DST would do) are far better for mental health and circadian rhythms.
@SMC_35@robbystarbuck And I don’t want 8am darkness. It’s winter; you can’t have it both ways. Early light is infinitely better for mental health and circadian rhythms. That’s why every time “permanent DST” has been tried (US in the 70’s, Russia last decade), it’s been hated and immediately rescinded.
