@TheSpaceGal It would be hard to believe that they wouldnt have some old fashioned pushbuttons / valves / etc to override the controls and force the ship to surface.
@TheSpaceGal I'm guessing they may have wanted to avoid penetration connections with the occupied tank area. So the computer and control electronics may have been stored outside the sealed occupied area where the field devices could have hardwired connections.
@TheSpaceGal If you put a hole in the pressurized crew area to run a wire outside to propellors or other devices, you have a potential weak point in the hull. I'm guessing there was one pressurized vessel for crew and a separate pv for electronics that connect to control devices.
