Someone said, “What are we supposed to do…recycle the same outfit for years?”
And that’s the truly the fundamental disconnect because I’m like, “Yes! You should wear stuff for years!”
The use of fear to control children is so ubiquitous that most adults don’t even realise they are doing it. They’d never describe what they are doing that way. But in so many different ways, the children feel it. Here’s what it looks like. 1/
@understatesmen It's like the guy called, I think, Privet in that series. Like... that just means "hi". Why is there a guy randomly called "Hi"?? There are a few instances where there are just random sort of Russianese bits without regard for the actual language!
When people tell me that they want to get back into reading but can’t seem to find THAT BOOK, I have some go-to recs based on what made them love reading in the first place
— here are 56 of them 🧵
For those saying the SCOTUS ruling is just giving the right to the states: Let’s go further, let’s give it to counties to decide. Actually, let’s give it to cities. You know what, how about we go even further and give it to the individual woman to decide what to do. Oh wait…
I am the “innocent child” pro-lifers love to slap on posters/use to bolster arguments. My mother gave me up for adoption after being unable to access abortion. She was poor, homeless. There was no parenting help. I received a life of pain+abuse. I would’ve rather been aborted.🧵
The problem with SCOTUS looking to whether a “right” is “deeply rooted in our history or traditions” is that our history and traditions are filled with genocide, slavery, brutality and misogyny. Why should we limit our “rights” to things that have only existed for those in power?
@riddlersluvr @Adonna55@simashakeri@lizzo Wait what... the r slur is definitely understood as a slur in NZ! (Am in NZ, have known it was a slur for at least 15-20 years.)
Anyway, this wasn't that word. I actually didn't know the word in question was a slur, so it's been a good learning experience for me. 🙂
@ultranatasja@jessejanderson Oh I didn't know that! My friends told me it was oh-RANG-a-tang too. The things you learn! I'm glad I mentioned it or I never would have found out 😊 Thank you!
Recently, feeling vaguely patriotic, I liked some tweets about OFMD. I had not realised how active the fandom is or how full of OFMD my timeline would get! Anyway I now know a lot about Ed & Stede and one day I hope to actually watch the show and find out which is which.
@LI_politico Like I've had 4 kids and have come out fairly unscathed but also I nearly died in childbirth and having kids (whom I love SO MUCH) has genuinely caused me some significant mental health issues so uh? Being thoughtful and considerate about the decision to have kids seems wise!
“Now is the time to stop the next shooting ... In each case we say this isn’t the time. Now is the time — like, literally right now. That’s why I’m here.”
— Texas gubernatorial candidate @BetoORourke on Gov. Greg Abbott saying now is not the time to politicize a shooting
@Bro90 @Dibundy @SnowCastle100@greencatherine@NewsNadine@nzherald For sure. It's funny/sad how you (I) know this stuff but then can get so focused on other things (the word rape, thinking about legality & defamation) that you miss the other bit of rape culture right there!
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out. Have a good rest of your day. 🙂
