E-bike crashes have killed 133 people in New York City since 2019. But Councilman Abreau, who took $260k in campaign donations from Uber Eats, wants to ban Central Park horse carriages - with 1 known fatal incident in 167 years! This is his big public safety concern. He’s pandering to animal rights fundamentalists and willing to eliminate about 170 jobs done by an overwhelmingly immigrant workforce.
Another hypocrite politician. @TwuSamuelsen
Open streets provide a little benefit for very few at a great cost to many and to the functioning of our city. Parks are parks and streets are streets for good reason. @NYC_DOT
Here's some other government info about people that could be released:
--Names of SNAP recipients
--All arrest/criminal records
--All single NYCHA residents with multi-bedroom units
@CMRestler And you closed streets, removed the working class from using taxpayer funded streets with congestion tax etc etc..
See how people are being caged in, their lives and livelihoods are being impacted?
Clueless privileged lobbyists want taxpayer dollars spent on a billion dollar for profit corporation, whilst NYC faces a potential $6b budget deficit for 2027.
Don't be fooled, same people suddenly using the term "e-moto" are the same people that have turned a blind eye towards them for years. The new bike lobby playbook is to decry illegal bikes in order to shield "legal" e-bikes from registration + licensing. The apps don't want that!
I’ve been calling for this for years, but TransAlt has opposed it vehemently from day one.
They’ve opposed any and all efforts to regulate e-bikes, including speed regulators and basic safety enforcement.
In fact, one of Mamdani’s very first acts as mayor was removing the speed limiters on Citibike e-bikes and ending speed enforcement entirely, both done at the behest of TransAlt.
So TransAlt can spare me their pleas to ‘do something’ about speeding e-bikes. We’ve been trying. They’ve been standing in the way.
This is what @CB7Manhattan@TransAlt is bringing to 72nd Street. Chaos, morbidity, death. Sad t
How little regard they have for human life and public safety.
The same guys who told you enforcement was racist, and helmets make you LESS safe, and have thrust the e-bike scourge on us insisting they not be regulated, licensed, or insured gonna talk?
It really is astounding that the most reliable way to know whether Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington is that John Fetterman puts on a suit to show respect to his leader, but not for anyone else, including American leaders.
