@DavidOsmond8@OpenNem Hi David, I've been enjoying your simulations each week :) one question about how the scaling works.. is it that the simulation shows what would happen if wind/solar etc max capacity was 3~4x whatever the current max capacity is?
Now that AI has ruined the emdash for punctuation enthusiasts like me... I'm thinking of switching to the double emdash (⸺) and worst case, fellow humans, there's always the triple: ⸻
@renew_economy@TristanEdis Btw, do you have any more information on typical nuclear build costs? I'd be keen to see more analysis of this component. The Frontier Economics report estimates a $10k/kw nuclear capital cost. Do you have any more detail about your estimate?
@renew_economy Thanks for the analysis @TristanEdis. It seems to me like most shortcomings in the Frontier Economics methodology is because they're replicating AEMOs ISP, warts and all. To be honest, I thought that's not a bad way to make a robust comparison?
I've been trying to wrap my head around the energy debate in Australia.
I found the reporting and opinion online to be all-over-the-place.
So, I went and read all the reports and had a go at summarising my understanding—keen to hear feedback!

@magnetikonline@awscloud Heh I've got a g4dn.xlarge in Sydney that I use as a cloud gaming PC. Works pretty great already—but yeah, I'd be tempted to move it just for the 2-5ms gain 😆 However, it looks like Melbourne doesn't have these GPU instance types just yet..
@benschwarz Honestly, I probably should've just gone with Vercel or Imgix 😆 ..but I'm also picky about the image quality. Some services I tried overcompressed a little for my taste — good for general web use, but less good for photography in my opinion!
@benschwarz I ended up making my own with just the features I need for my photo blog: https://t.co/y4TXuZwDVi

Handles resizing + width and dpr client hints + WebP or AVIF when possible.
It's ~200 lines of JS using express and sharp.
