@bmakins I know of one of the pastors who leads Grace in Marietta. He cofounded a leadership org (Gravity Leadership) that has been revolutionary for me as a leader, but is no longer a part of the org, not sure why. Don’t know much more about the church though.
@derricklweston We need to talk about all of this over drinks soon. But not mimosas, please. I assume you will be just as insightful over bourbon? Or at least as honest?
@LSamuelThomas Prayers for you. Have been there. I pray you also will have others who can discern this with you. Please speak, your servant is listening...
PS. willing to offer advice or thoughts, but not unsolicited. :-) So feel free to DM if it would help in your discernment.
@scottagunn Where have you seen opacity being voted for? Genuinely curious, as I’ve been volunteering the House but haven’t been able to always pay as close attention to legislation.
@snarkyanglican @TransEpiscopal Marty has been a lifesaver today! Worked with him in the HoD with voting issues. Seems to float as needed, but was in HoD at the tech tables today. So grateful.
Dear priests, be patient with the faithful, always ready to encourage them. Be untiring ministers of God’s forgiveness and mercy. Never be harsh judges, but loving fathers.
What is needed is an infinite mercy, like that of the #SacredHeart, to remedy so much of the evil and suffering we see in the lives of human beings…. Let us entrust ourselves and the world to Him!
What if clergy stopped policing deconstruction & instead midwifed a bit (if welcomed/consented to ofc)?
Policing deconstruction serves to protect & serve clergy, but I've not heard one person deconstructing express gratitude for being policed.
It doesn't work or help them. /1
@joshthejust I just read it and plan to read it again and reflect on where this reality is present for me. Convicting and also calling me to better pastoral practice. Thank you. I look forward to more.
One of the reasons Baptists historically hold to congregationalism, which includes cooperation, was to prevent abuse of ecclesiastical power by bishops.
'Autonomy' as practiced in so many SBC churches just means the pastors are unquestioned bishops in their own church.
@Willmington Matt, you have my love and respect and come from similar places. And we disagree about significant things (which is why I am where I am now). My hope is in Jesus and it fuels my hope that people will not have to worry about being abused by people who claim to speak for Jesus.
I come from the SBC church world. I left it (and nondenominational “secret baptist” world) for several reasons, but I still find myself reeling when news like this comes out. It’s worse than I imagined it’d be. But also not surprising. I have lots of thoughts and takes brewing...
@Willmington I picked the wrong time to come back to this site….I’m glad there are places we agree here. I’m sorry that it seems I misunderstood you. But we don’t agree on discussing these equivalencies and their value. I am committed to the work in my own place, for sure.
