We tested whether #alpha-band activity is associated with the attentional selection of a single feature value within a feature dimension. (Spoiler: it doesn't seem so). 1/13
📜🎉 We have a new preprint: an overview & comparison of measures of 'aperiodic' neural activity!
This project explores different ideas & many methods used to study non-oscillatory features of intra- & extra-cranial electrophysiological recordings!

Conspiracy beliefs famously resist correction, ya?
WRONG: We show brief convos w GPT4 reduce conspiracy beliefs by ~20%!
-Lasts over 2mo
-Works on entrenched beliefs
-Tailored AI response rebuts specific evidence offered by believers

New Stanford research shows that hybrid is the new sweet spot of work.
Employees working at home 2 days a week were:
- Just as productive as in-the-office-all-week peers,
- Just as likely to get promoted,
- Far less likely to quit.
See you at #PuG2024!
Excited about our Symposium on Thursday 10:30 am, together with @KeiCetel @neuro_klooster Alina Studenova and Norman Forschack talking about single-trial electrophysiological data

In this work, we evaluate the theoretical status of neural oscillations and local field potentials generally. A thread... 🧵

Dear colleagues, please circulate these ads for two fully funded PhD positions in my new group. Topics can cover grid cells, retrosplenial cortex, head direction, subiculum and boundary coding + cog maps generally. https://t.co/TMb2jQ5UVs
Ever wondered why perceptual performance fluctuates over time? We found answers and new questions in our latest project, out now @PLOSBiology, by analyzing over 20 million perceptual decisions in humans and mice (https://t.co/iOStuj2Wog). A🧵:
Delighted to announce our dream experiment is now published in bioRxiv! Spanning 7 years, from Hunter's MSc beginnings to his journey as a wise-old postdoc, this pre-post amputation comparison decisively debunks the myth of large-scale brain reorganisation following amputation.
I am hiring a PhD student in cognitive computational #neuroscience! 👩🏻🎓👨🏻🎓Come and help us discover how the human brain learns, decides and guides flexible behaviour in beautiful Würzburg 🧠🙌

Paper out in Psychophysiology, w/ @derFaint, @MaeveBoylan, @UF_brainwaves, and Matthias Müller. If you use steady-state visual evoked potentials (ssVEPs) in your research and want to maximize your ssVEP signal, this one might be for you. (cc @TheRealSPR) https://t.co/cBsTUpojtq
1/4 If you read one #depression#biomarker paper this year, read this one by Nils & the gang. They looked at a large sample of depressed and healthy participants, investigating numerous features (neuro, genetics, etc) in 2.4 million #MachineLearing models.

Some updated thoughts on the role of alpha oscillations and how they are controlled in light of recent discoveries:
Gating by alpha band inhibition revised: a case for a secondary control mechanism https://t.co/uKMQJIMvmu
@dingding_peng @RichardvReeves Thanks, sound very interesting! It quite resonates with me. I find it quite disturbing with how many often harsh and conflicting ideas on what a boy should and shouldn't do or be my 5 year old son is already confronted in Kindergarten.
This lets us conclude that alpha-band amplitude modulations seem not to be associated with the global and sustained selection of attended over unattended feature values of the same feature dimension. 13/13

...that throughout the post-cue period, when feature-based attention was deployed, was very much the same contralateral to the stimulus sharing the attended and unattended color. Bayes said so. 12/13
