The Ethiopian Government has embarked on a new wave of mass arrests targeting ethnic Amharas of all standing!
A similar mass arrest has been undertaken in May 2022. Towards the end of the campaign i.e around August 2022 when rumors of third round war with TPLF started, close to 34,000 people were arrested. The government only acknowledged 12,000 were under their custody. From those abducted by the State, only the prominent journalists and human rights defenders were released, those who are not very well known are either still languishing in various holding camps or were killed. Now a similar mass abduction is taking place. These Amharas are being charged with a blanket 'terrorism' charges. These new rounds of abductions include scholars, political leaders, students, volunteers at Amhara Civic Organizations who are trying to alleviate the multi-dimensional problems Amharas displaced from genocide hotspot areas like Metekel and Wollega are facing. Generally, this well coordinated false flag operation is a known pattern of the EPRDF/PP governments where they carry out false flag attacks, or 'foil' pre-planned state led operations in order to charge their political opponents or simply detain members of targeted ethnic groups without charge.
Ethnic Amharas and Guraghes have been lately heavily profiled and arrested every time an anti- Government civil disobedience action takes place. Parallel to the profiled detentions, homes of ethnic Amharas and other non-Oromos was being clearly marked with a red 'X' sign for a demolishing force that comes out and knocks down homes often without even warning the residents within. Over 15,000 homes were knocked down in and around Addis Ababa in such a way only in the past couple of months.
Another extremely concerning trend is the fact that official federal appointees were extending threat against ethnic Amharas the whole past week by invoking references from the ethnic turmoil in what was known as Yugoslavia and stories from the accounts of the Rwandan Genocide. They all were clearly trying to label ethnic Amahras as a cause for “an upcoming genocide��� in Ethiopia. This is in line with what has been going on in the #AmharaGenocide hotspots like Metekel and Wollega. The various TPLF, OLF & OPP support groups were disseminating disinformation by misattributing data from #AmahraGenocide as if the atrocities were carried out by Amharas. What is happening now is the scaling up of this localized test-run to a national level.
Federal and Regional State Medias, like The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBS), Fana Broadcasting Corporate S.C (FBC), Amhara Media Corporation (AMCo), have been covering made-up stories to legitimize the state led abductions. These Medias are known for propping government’s false flag operations, and are the preferred state apparatus used to target individuals. In the past, these Medias were used to target Muslims, Orthodox Christians, Ethnic Amharas, Oromos, Tigrayans, Guraghes, Somalis, and Agnuaks depending on the group the central government is targeting at the time. These practices were openly admitted by the current ‘reformed’ government while the new leadership vowed not to repeat the mistakes of their EPRDF party. Sadly, that practice is still being undertaken to the detriment of the currently targeted ethnic Amharas in Ethiopia, therefore, leadership of these Medias should also be considered as accomplices to the perpetrators of the ongoing genocide against Amharas.
The message is loud and clear!
