‘This wonderful book captures so well and in such a gripping style Elaine’s journey to becoming a teacher and headteacher and the travails of achieving that within the toxic culture of racism and low expectations of African heritage people in Britain. #AskProfGusJohn please join:
@EditiEffiong I really enjoyed "The Black Book" a story of tragedy and a search for justice while at the same time exposing the relentless evil in a corrupt system. This is a fine directorial debut. A job well done. And of course you could not have chosen a better lead in RMD.
@guardian What’s the Caribbean without its beaches? But the people are losing access to them https://t.co/6bhma6RKcy
@guardian In Jamaica's case, the situation is tragic. The PM said we have 131 beaches, and all citizens should have full access. Then he said 10!!!
@ninaspage Nina absolutely loved your show tonight. The musicality, theatrics so beautifully executed. I closed my eyes and #ninakristofferson you were #billieholiday . So grateful the stars aligned to make it possible.
@AndrewHolnessJM The solution here is simple. Parent should sit in back seat with small child on lap, belt around both. Just like on an aeroplane. Older child use a seat belt. Suggest you give drivers timeframe to be fully compliant. Please do not give way to those who prefer chaos.
@beerpiechips @Keltic_Witch @iamkehindealuko@DebLaughton @Sistah_Space @ManduReid Nope. Disingenuous. British, what the hell does that even mean for a black person. There is Scottish, Welsh and English but she is British from Hackney - a tree without roots. If, in that moment, she was truly proud of her DNA, she would have responded differently. Over and out.
@AshtonChrissie @iamkehindealuko@DebLaughton @Sistah_Space @ManduReid But 'ancestry' is kind of new school, am from the other school, trying to squeeze myself into 'new'. It's not an easy fit, a bit like new shoes or navigating a minefield.
@iamkehindealuko@DebLaughton @Sistah_Space @ManduReid@SuzanneEJacob As a global citizen I ask all kinds of people where they're from. They are never offended, it usually leads to great conversations even friendship.
@Sistah_Space Is your mother Igbo and your father Fulani! Your name seems to have straddled two unlikely tribes together. no vex o, a jus de aks. Oh are you British or English.
@AndrewHolnessJM You say the official language of Jamaica is English yet here you are making your point in Patois. A contradiction, wouldn't you say! It's clear that our language is Patois not English. And if you want less children leaving school illterate, teach in Patois not a foreign language.
