The Ted Chiang article is so disappointing. Noone is claiming otherwise. Obviously if I can perfectly impersonate someone that doesn't mean I am literally them, but it might mean I'm conscious.
@nazimadakli I wouldnt trust an LLM or human to score tweet on social contribution, but it would be neat if instead of just "LIKE" you could flag logical fallacies, or tag it to an argument graph (to see how often its been rebuffed etc)
@anilkseth@thenerve_news@GaryMarcus@carolecadwalla 3/ @anilkseth's third agument, is that a simulation of consciousness is not consciousness, like a simulation of a hurricane is not a hurricane.
This begs the question. A simulation of a computer IS a computer. So depends, is consciousness more like a computer or a hurricane?
@anilkseth@thenerve_news@GaryMarcus@carolecadwalla 2/ @anilkseth's second point is hard to tease out. Something like, "Evolution can explain biology without God, likewise we can explain LLMs without consciousness."
Sure, whats that got to do with whether we *are* conscious? Theres no evidence for consciouss in our brains either.
