I think software engineering jobs will shrink by 67% and salaries will get cut by 33% in the next 3 years.

For example, a team of 36 making $300k/yr on average will be outshipped by a team of 12 making $200k/yr on average.

This has happened before—in finance, journalism, and media.

Ultimately, the only way to earn an outsized living in these industries is to take risks and start your own thing.

AI tools I use as DevOps Engineer:

1) ChatGPT - communication, templates
2) Claude AI - Code, technical tasks
3) Perplexity - AI Search Engine for documentation reference
4) KubeWhisper - for kubectl commands
5) Cursor - AI IDE for codebase context and questions related to existing code

AI is transforming how we work and it has huge impact on DevOps roles. My prediction is that at some point we’ll have huge part of our job automated with AI agents. To keep up with the trends, I am constantly learning new things and AI technologies.

Linux uses numbers to control file access:
4 = Read (r)
2 = Write (w)
1 = Execute (x)

Permissions are set for: User, Group, Others.

Example: chmod 755
7 = 4 + 2 + 1 (User: Read, Write, Execute)
5 = 4 + 1 (Group: Read, Execute)
5 = 4 + 1 (Others: Read, Execute)
