After many years of not using social media at all I'm back. I'm planning to write blog articles and publish YouTube videos again. Topics will be RISC-V, FPGAs, HW and AI. If you are interested please follow my new account @martintroiber.
@gillham@enjoy_digital Great that sounds pretty much exactly like my plan.
I already got the swiftshader running on RISC-V in emulation and on the sipeed nezha. I'll upstream that progress in the next few days. Next step will be running it on Litex + Rocket + Debian. Then on small accelerator cores.
@iamtommythorn @geekbench@risc_v I ended up patching the binary with this command:
bbe -e "s/\x0f\x00\x30\x83/\x0f\x00\x30\x03/" mybinary
This replaces fence.tso with fence rw, rw.
Hopefully it helps someone who runs into the same issue.
Also thanks at @BruceHoult for the fence rw, rw suggestion.
@iamtommythorn @geekbench@risc_v I should have clarified that I ran into the `fence.tso` issue while compiling an open source project. So recompiling with different flags (or modifying source code) would be an option.
Modifying OpenSBI should work but I'm not sure if it would be the best choice in this case.
@iamtommythorn @geekbench@risc_v I ran into this issue too.
Did you find a workaround?
I saw suggestions along the lines of "make the compiler not produce the instruction" and "use opensbi for trapping" but I couldn't find a project which actually implements these...
@gillham@enjoy_digital The GPU thing sounds interesting.
What are you planning on using the GPU for?
I'm currently porting a software renderer (Swiftshader) to RISC-V and I am planning on using it on a GPU/Manycore.
@lucasteske@SipeedIO It does work but is very fiddly. @enjoy_digital and I added some instructions on getting it running with LiteX: https://t.co/ST7Lf86r4j
@freialobo Not sure how to feel about it.
On the one hand it might help people get into CS.
On the other hand it also leads to unrealistic expectations and worshipping of those companies.
@isosteph In Germany at least the entire concept of race is taboo. Obv there still is racism.
My Chinese friends told me that they feel "normal" here. When visiting China I experienced a lot of weird looks.
However I guess in the US looks and heritage is even less of a deal.
