कुरुक्षेत्र का युद्ध महाभारत का मुख्य भाग है। युद्ध से पहले अर्जुन, जो पांडवों के प्रमुख योद्धा थे, युद्धभूमि में अपने परिवार, गुरु, और मित्रों को देखकर विचलित हो गए। उन्हें युद्ध करने के बारे में संदेह और नैतिक संकट होने लगा। इस मानसिक स्थिति में उन्होंने अपने रथ के सारथी, भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से मार्गदर्शन की प्रार्थना की।

यही वह क्षण था जब भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने अर्जुन को भगवद गीता का उपदेश दिया।
