Chuck Yeager: The First Man to Break the Sound Barrier
On October 14, 1947, American test pilot Chuck Yeager became the first person to fly faster than the speed of sound. He achieved this historic feat in the experimental Bell X-1 aircraft, which he nicknamed Glamorous Glennis after his wife.
Yeager reached a speed of approximately Mach 1.06 at an altitude of about 13 kilometers (43,000 feet). At the time, many scientists and engineers were unsure whether an aircraft could safely pass through the so-called “sound barrier.” @NASA

From $23.50 to Global Standard: The Day Intel Went Public
On October 13, 1971, a young semiconductor company called Intel launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO), forever changing the landscape of global technology and financial markets. Priced at just $23.50 per share, the IPO raised $8.2 million and valued the company at $58.2 million.
At the time, Intel was a bold, three-year-old startup driven by visionaries Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce. Decades later, that single day remains a textbook example of how early-stage tech investments can reshape the modern world. @intel
🌍 On This Day in Financial History: The Birth of IMF & World Bank @IMFNews 🏛️
Following the historic Bretton Woods Conference, the foundations of modern global finance took a massive step forward in autumn 1945 as member states began officially signing the agreements, giving birth to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
These two institutions became the pillars of the global financial architecture, designed to promote economic stability, rebuild war-torn nations, and foster international cooperation.
Coincidentally, mid-October remains a crucial time for world economics, as the IMF and World Bank traditionally host their Annual Meetings during this exact period to shape global economic policy.
