Devuan GNU/Linux

Debian fork without systemd bugs: stable, secure, simple and fast. Regular updates since 2016 thanks to your support

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Wanted to be the boss of all init systems, ended up as an office suite: systemd-resolved, systemd-oomd, systemd-logind, systemd-sysusers, systemd-homed and more mess in logs, tmp files, mounted volumes and soon boot loader! Egomaniac, or simply deaf?

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

At Devuan, we're not driven by profit or marketing. We recognize the achievements of other communities through evidence, not hype. That's why we salute @OpenBSD on its 8.0 release: an outstanding community effort putting users' security first.

[Jaromil @jaromil]

Welcome to the world @OpenBSD 8.0 ! considering how AI-slop coding has taken over the Linux kernel, recent Ubuntu derive into consumer-grade and security flaws since the systemd avalanche, OpenBSD is my top choice for mission critical headless servers.

Finally moved to #Xlibre

Dual Screen, One Pen Display. All fully rocking and always ready for production. It wont get any better than this.

Thanks to the people at @DevuanOrg and @XLibreDev

[The Lunduke Journal @LundukeJournal]

A huge thank you to the teams behind Devuan & XLibre (and the developers who built the components before them).

Your outstanding work has made LCOS easier to produce, and has been a true joy to work with.

[probono @probonopd]

All this drama and effort around #Wayland, and then it turns out it's not even faster

[Doug Burks @dougburks]

@DCFUKSURMOM make sure you try dynebolic v1 liveCD - historical distro by @DyneOrg - doesn't even needs a modded xbox and supports mouse emulation on joypads out of the box

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Devuan has survived because its community keeps it independent.

We just updated our donation reports, and this year we are below our usual mark. Help us build the minimal reserve needed to keep Devuan running under all circumstances.

Old but gold: Maemo Leste is a mobile OS based on Devuan 3 (Bookwork). It still works very well on supported devices, among them Nokia N900, Motorola Droid 4 and Bionic, Pinephone, Pinetab and Allwinner tablets. Here is a recent showcase of a slick setup

[The Lunduke Journal @LundukeJournal]

Most excellent! Really pleased with LCOS 0.5.

Definitely my favorite distro to use at this point.

Huge thanks to the @DevuanOrg team for making such an outstanding base platform to build with!

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Devuan keeps inspiring new projects.

Spaced Linux, rolling distro based on Devuan Ceres, is now featured on Slashdot.

Great to see another project embracing choice, independence, and the joy of building something new.

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Devuan removed /etc/machine-id in 2019 because we knew.

Any project competent enough to ship a distro either knows what undeclared user tracking enables, or is useful to those who do.
Those who knew and lied should be held accountable.

We did predict this such a long time ago that most links are dead
https://t.co/uonlFm1Y8u 😅
but please know in Devuan we do not allow /etc/machine-id to track our users.

[JFK Files @read_jfk_files]

tfw you laugh at idiot Microsofty lusers being globally tracked by the NSA because their GUID is hardcoded inside their TPM, but then you suddenly remember Linux also has /etc/machine-id and you forgot to setup your init daemon to periodically truncate and regenerate a new machine-id so you can't also be tracked because you are pretty sure that Chrome is reading it and sending it to Google as harmless "user telemetry analytics."

i stand by my claim that mf'er asshole Lennart Poettering really is the NSA's man on the inside on a mission to destroy Linux and install the NSA's backdoors through all his systemd slop

Fantastic video that explains everything related to the loss of freedom and sovereignty when you let others decide for you. I recommend watching it to the end.

@ash_twtz @DevuanOrg with Openbox wm runs great and uses very low RAM 248 MB idle on an 8 GB system (cold boot). It stays under 420 MB even after opening and closing apps.

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Did you know the second #Debian leader after Ian Murdock, @BrucePerens, prefers to run Devuan?
In an appearance in Slashdot, he said that our distro is engineered how he would have decided to make it & that it is efficient and trouble-free.

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

Their announcement is full of good community vibes and provides download links, here https://t.co/WZQsmtuJm3

[Devuan GNU/Linux @DevuanOrg]

PeppermintOS just announced PepDevuan! a build of their minimalist Xfce desktop distro granting init freedom to all users: sysvinit, openrc and runit available at install.

[XLibre @XLibreDev]

#XLibre 25.1 Series Feature Highlight

We added the #seatd support authored by #Devuan. It can serve as an alternative seat management solution in #systemd-free distributions. To learn more about seatd and its seat management library, please visit https://t.co/JwysFJLMeg.
