@MLJHaynes At this point, they could hardly be considered "Roman" Catholic anymore; they are either protestants or orthodox at this point.
They need to pick a lane, find some new friends, and just move on already!
@MLJHaynes "We're not protestant; we are just protesting a magisterium which has fallen into apostasy!"
"We're not schismatics; we are just keeping ourselves separate from the See of Rome to maintain the purity of our one, true, ancient, unchanging, correct faith!"
Can they not hear that?
@JPuncut "So when Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!' Then He said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household."
@OrthodoxWario The kinda vibes I imagine permeating some of those councils... Reading about the bishops go back and forth disagreeing about stuff, some of which I'm not even sure I understand well enough to have cogent opinion on...
@farmingandJesus Nobody cares "Lizzie".
I mean, I can see why you like to go after Catholics though. We're the only ones who would even bother to respect a woman enough to at least hear her words on matters of faith...
... the others can't hear you because they are laughing too hard.
@TerraDraca@poperespecter1 I think his point is that the police would, in fact, just assume that priests would just refuse to follow the law, and so they would send officers into confessionals and say things that would be, unequivocally, mandatorily reportable, thus entrapping them and prosecuting.
@poperespecter1 Wouldn't this just end up being hearsay anyway, though? It has dubious evidentiary value, and would need some corroborating evidence. I mean, I guess it would give police a lead, but this seems like a hugely inefficient way to do that even.
Big Soviet propaganda vibes, IMHO...
@Cardi_Lazarus@poperespecter1 ... that even in this, their darkest hour, they are not alone. God has not turned away from them, and He desperately wants for them to turn their face back to Him. The priest can make their absolution conditional on their demonstration of their perfect contrition, which would...
@ThugLif56317483@michaelkadeg@PhilosophyMonk ... audience he is trying to reach would better advised to carefully take stock of how they are feeling generally, both mentally and physically, if have an excessive habit. It could be a coping mechanism.
It'd be better to resolve the underlying issue, instead of ignoring it.
@ThugLif56317483@michaelkadeg@PhilosophyMonk ... symptoms he describes might turn to this activity instinctively as a sort of "self-medicating".
He's right to draw attention to the issue, and point out the connection. But I think he goes too far in trying to establish this cause and effect.
Overall, I think that the...
@creation247 All parents should absolutely be free to raise their children with the values they wish to impart to them, without undue interference.
But what will they think of a pyromaniac who wouldn't blink at the chance to set the world on fire if it meant he could be king of the ashes?...
@CatherineHume10@creation247 That is both extremely broad and highly speculative.
I feel sorry for whatever parent believes in this, genuinely applying it to raising their children, only to have their experience follow a very different trajectory.
Your implication is they were just bad parents; for shame!
@BibleInContext1 OK, well those pictures are extremely distasteful and those who edited the original photographs in such a disgusting way should feel a special kind of shame that I'm not sure I could even describe...
@BibleInContext1 If you're bellyaching about Catholic bias against some scholarly Biblical work you produced, and you truly feel they are not respecting your rightfully attained, relevant academic credentials, publish in a peer reviewed journal. There are several. Put up or shutup; talk's cheap.
@BibleInContext1 This feels like a variation on that meme w/ that dorky/sarcastic-looking guy with glasses that was tryin' be all, "ppl who aren't Christian can't just go round sayin' we have logs in our eyes, i mean look at that splinter, bruh!"
But ur doin a spittake on Catholics here or smthn
