15 Years of Change,
How Dg Mustafaโs story exemplifies the long-term impact of investing in Somaliaโs local governance.
In 2016, Mustafa Abdullahi Hassan, then a recent graduate, made the deliberate choice to remain in Somalia and contribute to its reconstruction, despite the ongoing conflict. Selected for an internship with the UN Joint Programme on Local Governance (JPLG), Mustafa gained invaluable experience that set the foundation for his career in public service. By 2019, he had advanced to the position of Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Local Governments, and Reconciliation in Somaliaโs South West State. Among his notable achievements, Mustafa successfully advocated for 50% female representation in the Diinsoor district council, a pioneering accomplishment in post-conflict Somalia. His professional trajectory illustrates the enduring impact of JPLG's efforts in strengthening governance and empowering the next generation of Somali leaders.

How @DG_mustaf's story exemplifies the long-term impact of investing in Somaliaโs local governance
โIt was 2016 โ four years after Somalia had adopted the new provisional constitution. Peace was still illusive,โ recalls 33-year-old Mustafa, reflecting on his early days as a fresh graduate in his mid-twenties searching for opportunities in war-torn Somalia.

Yesterday, members of @HIPSINSTITUTE, led by Executive Director @SaneyMursal, were honored to attend the grand launch of @iradinstitute, an independent, non-profit think tank based in Baidoa. The ceremony, inaugurated by H.E. President @Laftagreen of the South West state of Somalia, was graced by the presence of senior FGS & SW state government officials, distinguished members of academia, civil society, and other notable figures.
In his speech, our director commended @iradinstitute's leadership for pioneering the establishment of the first think tank in the South West state. He emphasized the critical role that such overdue think tanks play in educating the public on peacebuilding and statebuilding efforts.

Chaos at the AAO Airport as Local Flights remain Stranded.
Early in the morning, while en route to Baidoa, I came to surprising realization - all local flights have been brought to a standstill. The reason behind this unexpected disruption is the Ministry of Aviation's decision to impose an additional fee of 9 dollars on each passenger.
Both the airline owners and the passengers vehemently refused to comply with this unjust charge. It's truly absurd!
For passengers who are already financially strained, a sum of nine dollars is an exorbitant amount to bear, especially when they are simply trying to return to their respective hometowns.
This situation cannot be allowed to persist, as it has left passengers stranded at the mercy of the airport's confines. The justification for implementing this fee remains shrouded in uncertainty. My 8:00 am flight remains in limbo, and rumors circulate that no local flights will depart from Mogadishu today.
Aviation authorities must intervene soon to end this standstill.
Warsheikh district reformation completed! New mayor & deputy mayor elected for 4-year term. Mr. Mohamed Hassan Matan as mayor & Mr. Hirabe Mohamed as deputy mayor. Notable, 29% women reps with 6 out of 21 elected council members. Successful inclusive DCF process.@Ulkoministerio.
