Xcode 27, even with your glitching editor tabs, you had me at "properly red-green colored" lines in diffs. You can actually tell what's out and what's new! Revolutionary I know.
We’ve been working on Ambar for almost two years. I haven’t posted much about the company or the process. But I think it’s time so start sharing more about what we’re doing, how it works, and most importantly, why we’re building it.
Whoever still thinks LLMs can replace human designers or engineers, doesn't really understand how systems are built. They're the most amazing **tools** that have existed, but they just have no concept of what they're doing and make the dumbest entry-level mistakes.
Today we're launching Era and announcing $11M in funding.
We're building the intelligence layer for a new ecosystem of AI devices — the platform that lets any device manufacturer, brand, designer, or creator make objects that think, respond, and act in their own style.
We're entering a Cambrian explosion — new form factors, new creators, new objects worth desiring. Made by people who've never had the tools to make them, before today.
Welcome to the new Era.
Backed by @AbstractVC, @BoxGroup, @topology_vc, @betaworks, @CollaborativeFund, @MozillaVentures, and @AIResidency.
@lizwandersworld Amazing, congrats Liz and the Era team! So many everyday objects that could be enhanced with intelligence, but of course you can’t expect each maker to build their own ai platform. Brilliant!
What if your whole computer were just pixels streamed to you from a model? I’ve been working with @zan2434 and @drewocarr to imagine a version of generative computing that’s much more flexible and visually rich than the GUIs we have today.
(Video is sped up and edited)
I couldn't figure out why I find the new Model Y way less appealing than the previous one... until this image came to me in a half-awake dream. It lost a lot of its human connection.
@threejs Besides being a richer and much more mature 3D API, there's lots of add-ons that people have made that make your life easier, there's tons of tutorials and videos, and Claude/GPT seem to know it inside out and can help with any task. It's been 10x faster.
I started using @threejs for the web/android version of the project. So far it's been fantastic. For the iOS app I was constantly fighting RealityKit's limitations and lack of documentation/community. Three js is light years ahead.
iOS app part of the project is looking good, went full in on 3D immersive UI. Now starting on an Android counterpart, along with the server backend. Making your own thing certainly means many many hats.
@mrdoob@TheRealKoolala “Wanted” web apps is a stretch. They knew they needed to give some story to developers about extending the device, but the sdk was still in early planning. He knew the experience was not even close.
Either way, as usual it’s probably a combination of all these factors.
@mrdoob@TheRealKoolala There’s also of course the issue of control. Even if flash had been perfectly secure and performant, it wasn’t in Apple’s interest to have rich interactive experiences directly over the open web, skipping App Store review and fees.
Playing pretend program manager today, trying to plan out the rest of the project towards 1.0. This stuff is hard, mostly because the stubborn engineering team (also me) won't provide concrete dates for when tasks will be ready.
I started using @linear for planning and bug tracking and it's just fantastic. They get interaction is important! At my previous team we used Jira (still can't understand why they liked to torture us like that). Radar was pretty good, but way too complex.
