At the #WTOPublicForum, @ituc & @uniglobalunion jointly organised “What Lies Beneath: The Hidden Labour Behind Digital Services.”

Digital services depend on complex global supply chains — and on the often-unrecognised work of data annotators, human trainers, content moderators and many others, who frequently work in precarious conditions.

Our discussion put these workers at the centre of the conversation and explored how digital trade governance can better reflect the realities of the people who make digital services possible.

📣 The key takeaway: Trade policy must consider its impact on people. Workers and their rights need to be factored into the negotiation and governance of digital trade.

Digital trade cannot be truly inclusive without recognising, protecting and listening to the workers who make it possible.
