Unfortunately there is a lot of research that highlights non-white children, particularly black boys will get labelled as disruptive without further exploration into SpLDs. It would help if there were more non-white researchers in this area too.

Attended GCSE revision talk at my son's school. The talk was full of the words 'push your child' 'they need to achieve' finishing with a suggested revision timetable for the Easter break that started at 10 am and finished at 9 pm! Where's the regard for their mental health?!

People wouldn’t need disability benefits if they were not ‘disabled’ by an education system that writes so many of them off by mistakenly labelling them as low ability, less employable & refusing to screen them for Neurodiversity so teaching can be adapted for them to achieve.

Talking to children about neurodivergence is a delicate balance between regularly pointing out the strengths of their 'different-thinking' brain and accepting that a neurotypical world is going to present challenges. Being authentic builds trust. #ADHD #neurodivergence

@naomicfisher As someone who went to school at an 80s comp I don't feel that much has changed. Like most of my peers, I left school feeling like an utter failure but went on to thrive on non-exam focused degree and postgraduate courses that were practical and interesting.

Why is AI such a dirty word in education? I'm seeing it help many neurodivergent students who have felt ashamed because of their grammar, spelling and writing skills. AI is helping my dyslexic son to communicate in ways he never could before. #neurodivergent #inclusive

Please remember, the chief function of your body is not just to carry your head around.
So many neurodivergent people live 90% of their lives functioning in their heads and almost forgetting entirely about their bodies...until they get sick.

How ironic that many of the 'traits' I'm going to mention cannot be found anywhere on the DSM-5.

My son, (dyslexia/ADHD) set his alarm for 5.30 am, went for a run, returned, had a cold shower, completed a GCSE past paper for hmk. At school he was told he'd completed the wrong past paper. Thankfully, his teacher did give him feedback. THIS highlights an ADHD brain so well.

@tombennett71 This is crazy. Exams test retention of facts, not intelligence. For those with poor memory (SEND students who are NOT the minority schools seem to think) it's a nightmare. Sitting down for 2 hours and being tested on how much you can remember puts so many at a disadvantage.

@ADHDFoundation @ChildrensComm My son (dyslexic/ADHD), who is 16 and 6 foot 2, broke down in tears the other day about the 'behaviour' policies. "Mum I can't move, I can't breathe." He comes home every night and sleeps for 2 hours. He often gets 'star of the lesson'. Let that all sink in 😔

@truewhitemount @Spectrum0Gaming I would say a whole school approach of adopting inclusive teaching practice. Thinking you have to 'differentiate' for many pupils is ineffective teaching and will only lead to burn out. Inclusive teaching isn't dumbing down it's just great teaching.

@ianwhite21 Are the booklets adjusted for the 1 in 5 humans who are neurodivergent? Dyslexia-friendly font, colour etc. Otherwise they're excluding a lot of people. I've just had to ask my son's school to do this as he was sent home with the same booklets as other pupils and couldn't follow.
