BREAKING: Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji has reportedly been deported from Kenya after being detained at JKIA. Kenyan authorities reportedly found he was travelling on a Kenyan passport and informed him he could not claim diplomatic privileges until formally renouncing his Kenyan citizenship.
The President of #Galmudug, who announced that he is withdrawing from the #Galmudug presidential election, said:
"I have decided to withdraw from the ongoing #electoral process. You should never cling to power—always reflect on the lessons of the #past."
I appeal to Amnesty International to consider adopting Somali political and social activist Sa'diyo Ma'alin Ali aka Sa'dio Bajaaj as an 'international prisoner of conscience.'
Sa'diyo, who is a mother of a young child, was today sentenced to 3 years for speaking out against state abuse and misrule.
Prospect for successful appeal overturning her conviction very slim.
She has been in illegal detention for 3 months already where she was subjected to degrading and inhumane treatment.
Amnesty and other human rights organisations commendably called for her release, followed the trial closely.
Now comes the next step.
Designating Sa'diyo an international prisoner of conscience will raise profile of her case internationally and apply sufficient pressure on the government in Mogadishu.

@MaalinIrab@AminaMaandeeq@HangingByA College graduate & mom gets sentenced to 3 years in prison for criticizing the govt. High school dropout and a man who said education is “nothing” gets to travel overseas due tribal favoritism. Shut the hell up 🤫
@AliifiyeAli Qabiil favoritism means a high school dropout represents Somalia while college graduates struggle to make ends meet while driving Bajaaj. You’re a disgrace Ali ifiye Ali.
@mohab9561 Many Bajaaj drivers all hold bachelor’s degrees from local universities but they can’t land decent job. Yet this fool who didn’t earn any educational goals gets to represent the country overseas . Com’n man. Stop supporting this madness .
