When Russia hosted the World Cup in 2018, it had to suspend normal visa rules for the tournament. Foreigners with tickets could enter visa-free, using a scheme called ‘Fan ID.’

Russia also had to do weird stuff to keep FIFA’s sponsors happy. For example, small shops near Fan Zones and stadiums could only sell Budweiser beer on match days.

Perhaps I’m too attached to Manchester, but this is awful. This almost underlines the issues the locals have with the synthetic nature of Indian franchise ownership in the Hundred.

Why make this with AI? How does this represent anything Mancunian? What is that music? What even is this random AI slop? How does the message of unity even come about?

For a place that has the most diverse population in the UK outside London, has a heritage of sports culture and music culture, has iconic buildings and a unique vibe… how do you miss absolutely everything?

The reaction towards the logo felt a bit extreme, but their concerns increasingly seem well placed.
