#Daf and Dirshu Halacha Class @Oorah. Tweeting on the Daf and Torah since 2020 in memory of my father, Rabbi Avrohom Turin zt’l. Also @torahtreasure & @benturin
“We’re taking… real world addresses and then put[ting] them onto the blockchain,” says the founder of a virtual platform that allows users to purchase NFTs for real world addresses in a virtual space. Some are now selling for $100,000 or more.
Before you comment on how @SecBlinken "misquoted" the Talmud, know that only the Babylonian version of the Mishnah in Sanhedrin qualifies "saves one life" with "in Israel". Perhaps fittingly, the Palestinian version of the Mishnah is unqualified. See right column, lines 7-10.
@AlyssaMGray1@JessicaSpencerQ Excellent! Alternatively, it may be an indication that the Rabbis of the Talmud were more open to conversion than later generations. This may be supported by the stories in tractate #Shabbat regarding Hillel’s relatively simple conversion requirements in the recounted cases.
@Yochidonn@SamanthaFleish1@madinatoure I am very hesitant to post anything regarding this sensitive topic, but I want to point out that the article states, “...between yeshiva reform advocates and schools chancellor...” He was not referred to as a “yeshiva advocate.” You seem to be attacking a #strawman.
#Berachot17 Sages of Y applied the aphorism - one who does much and one who does less [have equal merit], as long as they direct their hearts towards Heaven - to Torah scholars and field laborers. Every person has a unique role to play in G-d's plan for the world. [cf. Rashi]
#Berachot17 It was said about R. Yoḥanan ben Zakkai that no one ever preceded him in issuing a greeting, not even a non-Jew in the marketplace, as R. Yoḥanan would always greet him first. @SefariaProject
#Berachot17. R. HZ's YK confession did not contain the admissions many consider critical to #Teshuva. The only references to sin are structured as prayer. "... May it be Your will that I err no more, and that the sins I have already committed you cleanse in Your abundant mercy."
@DoseYomi My sense of this is that “the times have changed,” is most often a post-facto explanation of a broadly adopted change in the Jewish community and an effort to smooth the bumps to be consistent with our GAHP (generally accepted halachik principles).
@DoseYomi I think we should celebrate R. G. efforts to humanize and respect his slave. With respect to slavery, the R. G. - Tavi relationship raises similar challenges for us as those experienced by modern Americans struggling with the founding fathers relationship to slavery. (2/2)
@DoseYomi Interesting, but I believe you are taking this too far. Perhaps he was a very mature young man and was able to concentrate on the Shema, despite being a new groom. Perhaps he didn’t see bathing for hygienic purposes as an affront to the proper mourning posture. (1/2)
#Berachot16. May it be Your will, Lord our G-d, that You grant us long life, a life of peace... a life in which You fulfill all the desires of our heart for good. Originally Rav's personal prayer, it now serves as the public prayer recited before each new Jewish month.
#Berachot14. No social visits before morning prayers. If you bump into someone, you can greet them. “Good Morning” is better than “Shalom Aleichem,” as “Shalom” is also one of G-d’s names and shouldn’t be used socially before praying. [Shulchan Aruch 89:2]
