@radiantXin@oubagaku Yeah just keep grinding and iterating your strat to find what works for you, and most importantly: never get demoralized and stay optimistic. You got this, gl hf :)
@radiantXin@oubagaku When I was applying for junior roles I used same CV without cover letter and just mass spammed applications.
You need to oversell exp, make it sound far bigger than it is. Your job is to make them want to interview you. Have you had any interviews yet?
@oubagaku Fair enough, imo ultimately all jobs hinge on your ability to sell yourself. First layer is the “will this person help our business?” And second layer is “will he be nice to work with?”
@radiantXin@oubagaku On LinkedIn you’re competing for 100s other applicants for every job post and 99% chance you won’t get a reply
Look at more local/niche job boards. Bonus points if you go outside of job boards. Reach out to people in companies directly, the more direct and personal the better
@radiantXin@oubagaku I tried ai to tailor my CV/cover letter but I had 0 success. Most likely because it’s obvious ai slop and makes it look like 99% of other applicants, not memorable
It is a numbers game, but I think the standard routes (LinkedIn, etc) are completely broken now and to be avoided
@oubagaku Just fyi I was struggling with finding a new job last year until I just said fuck it, threw out my AST impactful quantifiably optimized CV and replaced it with a handwritten casual unoptimized “here’s what I built” CV and wrote a HANDWRITTEN cover letter and got a great job
@politicalmath It’s because software is the field most true to the scientific process as it chases verifications and feedback loops. Meanwhile other sciences out there publish research with r2=0.5 and call it a day get tf outta here
@MegaBasedChad always has been. no matter what you do in life you're always selling.
your promotion, love life, business, etc all hinges upon whether you can sell YOURSELF as an asset
your real job is to convince others to put their resources into
@reed_barnes@tenobrus To be fair if you go with the default react experience agents would happily write you components with 20 useState hooks updating state in 50 useEffects it’s actually so bad if you aren’t using a more constrained state management approach
@tunahorse21 Can I use my Claude subscription on omp/hermes without getting banned? Also AFAIK Claude burns tokens 1.8x faster if you’re running it outside of its harness with claude -p 😿
@RokoMijic@EvanSipplen@IterIntellectus My short-term nightmare scenario is that both the US and China will prohibit their labs from offering frontier AI to non-citizens and the rest of the world instantly becomes the permanent underclass
@austinc3301 I’m old enough to remember when everyone was saying that China could only produce knock-offs of Western goods and they are incapable of innovating on their own. That didn’t hold up and neither will this.
@tasshinfogleman Been working on a personal curated social media feed. I got an automation scraping my X feed, a classifier that ranks each post against various metrics, and if a post passes the bar it ends up on my feed. Feels like taking back control of my information environment
@Pablo20203072@jeff49910401@SpiltsRS@OrevaZSN He could’ve done the same with a small deficit diet and retained his muscles so he could be 300lbs now instead lol. Sometimes you gotta take the trade off
@williamfducklee@robkhenderson@aruvinchan In the real world however, models are dating absolute goblins because their status and power over other people is way more empowering for women than being with a physically attractive man whose lower in the status hierarchy
@williamfducklee@robkhenderson@aruvinchan I think it’s cultural/youth. A young guy is very unlikely to get high social status until later. But looks are very well within his reach! The competitive landscape is also social media/dating apps. Looks are the meta there.
