I'm no longer active on Twitter/X. Find me at Bluesky @djweitzner.bsky.social or LinkedIn. Better yet, in person. Sorry to see this once-engaging platform turned into a personal political megaphone of its owner. That's his right, but it's only 'social' in the narrowest sense.
@random_walker Agreed. Alignment (aka good values, fairness, lawfulness, human flourishing, positive externalities... in more mundane contexts) requires technical tools to achieve by can only be defined through democratic governance. Conflating the means with the ends is the problem.
Great thread on threats to the security of all Internet comms from misguided police demands. As usual @JuliaAngwin nails it. Her NYT piece "If law enforcement has reason to suspect us, they should get a search warrant," not leave all users open to attack. https://t.co/2Y13SMfq1m

@daphnehk Another interpretation: applied design ethics moving into product dev teams. From MSFT-> @CaseyNewton “evolving toward putting more of the energy within the individual product teams that are building the services and the software." Maybe too optimistic but could be right move.
Sen. @RonWyden: "Chris Cox and I wrote Section 230 with the following idea: the person who *created* the content is liable for it. Quaint idea, I know."
Continues: "Its baffling that the conversation is 'Big Tech'. 230 protects everyone, and the startups need it especially."
Above all he is a model of principled, humble visionary leadership. In his farewell speech he left us with a challenge to strengthen our gov't and"rebuild a Senate defined not by sounds bites but by a believe in the strength of women and men and history." Thank you @SenatorLeahy!
An amazing career @SenatorLeahy: *48* years & *8 terms*. Setting the Internet policy tone on free speech, privacy, surveillance & insisting on integration of rule of law, trust in individual responsibility & innovation. @JerryBerman@DeirdreMulligan@JonahSeiger@CenDemTech
As @SenatorLeahy closes the final days of his remarkable tenure as U.S. Senator, @CenDemTech is taking a moment to thank him – for being an enduring ally in some of the most important tech policy debates of our time, since the beginning of CDT’s nearly three decade existence.👏👏
And he celebrated the victory in ACLU v Reno, declaring "Giving full-force to the First Amendment on-line is a victory for the First Amendment, for American technology, and for democracy." Let's hope we can remember this
@npsmajor@ratemyskyperoom I've had the shelves for decades. My memory is that they actually came from the Container Store. They have been quite sturdy and versatile!
@Elibietti Yes, please! The @elonmusk takeover of Twitter reminds me of Robert Moses bulldozing through beautiful thriving neighborhoods, robbing entire communities of the social vitality and economic value they have built over years. Be our Jane Jacobs!
Big congrats and thanks to you, @robinberjon, and @mnot Koichi Moriyama, David Singer, Eric Siow,
@LeonieWatson & Hongru (Judy) Zhu. As an alum of the @w3c team, I'm so grateful for all who have stepped up to serve and am excited to see this important next phase of the Web.
This is fantastic news for @WHOSTP the @WhiteHouse and the whole country. Such a distinguished scientist and leader adding to an already fantastic team!
Today’s historic bipartisan confirmation of Dr. Arati Prabhakar as Director of @WHOSTP is a testament to her sterling track record of leadership and innovation stewardship. We’re thrilled to welcome her to OSTP and begin a bright new chapter! My statement: https://t.co/wI03nqBMFA
